Those of us who said the love affair between President Trump and the murderous North Korean dictator, Kim Jong Un would never last have been proven correct.
Time after time after time…
Let’s be honest. The affair was always one sided, with Donald Trump’s impulsiveness, greed, and unsettling admiration of tyrants being the thinnest of threads to hold diplomacy steady. Kim was never a trustworthy partner for peace, and pretty much everyone knew it – except Trump.
To date, our nation’s would-be king has held several summits with Kim, emerging from these mostly secretive huddles with glowing reports of the relationship, but scant few details of any actual policy agreements. Politicos were simply told to believe in the strength of the relationship between the two.
That’s not a lot to base a foreign policy on, especially when the stakes are so high.
There is no one, other than Russia, who has backed the Kim regime for decades in their drive to promote communism, that feels a nuclear North Korea is a good idea.
And while we’re on that subject, I’m going to take a moment to interject here a point for consideration: Why is it that the bulk of President Trump’s foreign policy moves seem to benefit Russia, in some way, or at least follow the path of least resistance to Vladimir Putin’s goals?
Just a thought.
So back to the business at hand –
Earlier Saturday, the rogue regime announced to the world that they had been “deceived” by the United States, and that the time cultivating a relationship was wasted.
This announcement follows a previous promise of a “Christmas surprise” that many felt was a threat.
In a statement published by state news agency KCNA on Saturday, Kim Kye Gwan, a top adviser to Kim Jong Un, said the North Korean leader had received “birthday greetings from the U.S. president” this week, but their personal relationship is not enough to restart talks.
“Although Chairman Kim Jong Un has a good personal feelings about President Trump, they are, in the true sense of the word, ‘personal’,” the Pyongyang foreign ministry official said.
“We have been deceived by the United States, being caught in the dialogue with it for over one year and a half, and that was the lost time for us.”
Let’s not wring our hands over this and wonder if there’s a way to win them back. We never had them. Trump never had them. It was a ruse.
Trump, as the most inept and vacuous of all world leaders, was a pawn. He and his slavish cabal have convinced themselves that he is a wolf, when in fact, he’s a pig, fat and slowed by his own hubris. His condition is exacerbated by the worship of his MAGA cult.
Unfortunately, that pig is feeding at the trough of political power, and the actual wolves have already sized him up, accordingly.
Saturday’s announcement went further:
“There will never be such negotiations as that in Vietnam, in which we proposed exchanging a core nuclear facility of the country for the lift of some U.N. sanctions in a bid to lessen the sufferings of the peaceable people even a bit,” it said.
That’s right. The Kim regime cares not for the suffering of their own people. The poverty, persecution, and human rights abuses that are a living nightmare for the people of North Korea should have been an indicator to Trump that he was not dealing with a sane or rational player in Kim Jong Un.
To be fair, neither was Kim dealing with a sane or rational player. With that in mind, I would say it’s folly to be surprised that Trump has such admiration for a despot.
Kim knew how to stroke Trump’s ego and hold him at bay, long enough to keep the U.S. off guard, while they continued to work on developing nuclear weaponry.
I guess it’s true: No matter what they’re saying now, dangerous regimes in the world have never had a better friend than they have in Donald Trump.
At the time of this writing, there is no response from President Ranty McTweeter, in regards to the latest statements from his bff. When (or “if”) it comes, my guess is that it will be the kind of reality-impaired nonsense we’ve become accustomed to, where Trump declares that all is well, even as the house is burning down around him.
Hey, maybe he can make it all better by writing Kim a beautiful letter?
