Greed.

It’s not a virtue, guys.

The DNC is getting a crash course in that from one of their rising stars, and it’s hard to feel sorry for them.

The Democrats have really poured their hopes and dreams into Robert Francis O’Rourke, the Irish kid who took on the very Hispanic nickname of “Beto” and then went on to challenge Republican Senator Ted Cruz for his Senate seat.

It may be a gamble they come to regret.

Still, O’Rourke has done something for the record books. He’s raked in the largest fundraising haul in Senate race history – $38.1 million.

Impressive.

Up until now, the record for the largest fundraising haul belonged to Republican Congressman Rick Lazio (NY), who took in $23 million in his Senate contest against former First Lady Hillary Clinton in 2000.

Even with that hefty war chest, Lazio lost.

Just sayin’…

With O’Rourke, however, Democrats may have put all of their eggs in the Beto basket, and now they may be having some regrets.

For one thing, there are other Senate seats they could use extra funds for, and O’Rourke is, apparently, not a team player.

I think the slobbering celebrity that he’s been given, as Democrats desperately hope to flip Texas blue, has gone to his head.

When asked if he’d be willing to share some of his funds with his fellow Democrats, as they work to bring about this “blue wave” we keep hearing about, he was pretty blunt in his refusal.

“No,” O’Rourke told a reporter when asked if he would commit to sharing funds with Senate Democratic candidates who are in closer races. “I’m focused on Texas. Most of our contributions have come from Texas. All of them have come from people. Not a dime from PACs.”

“Folks contributed to this race because they want us to win this race. If they want to contribute to another campaign, of course they’re welcome to do that,” O’Rourke said. “No, we’re going to spare no expense. We will bear any burden to make sure that we deliver for this state and for this country. That means a victory on the 6th of November.”

“I’ve got to honor the commitment that those who’ve contributed to this campaign have made to me, and their desire that we use this to win this election,” O’Rourke said. “If they want to contribute to someone else, they should do so. If they want to contribute to a campaign that’s going to win this historic victory for Texas and the country, then I’m grateful for the contribution and I’m going to make the most of it, so that’s what we’re focused on.”

And I’m not going to say he doesn’t have a chance to win. He does.

For a while, the incumbent Senator Ted Cruz was barely holding on to his lead, but in recent weeks, most polls show Cruz pulling ahead.

Still, at this point, it really does seem that all the focus and celebrity being poured out on O’Rourke has been a waste.

And to be fair, Democrats are probably really hoping everyone will focus on “Beto” O’Rourke as the “bright future” of the DNC. They’d do anything or back anybody to keep the focus off of their NY-14 Congressional candidate, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Every time she opens her mouth on a subject, dumb pours out.

And she’ll likely win, which frees her up to continue to showcase her vacuous intellect.

It is endangered Democrat candidates in Florida, Indiana, and Missouri that the DNC were hoping to give an extra boost to, but it’s not about the party, at this point.

It’s about the Beto Show!

Senator Cruz made a good point over the weekend, when asked if his opponent should share a bit of the wealth with his fellow Democrat candidates.

“It would seem that if the Democratic Party wants to embrace the principles of socialism, they should take the money his campaign has raised and give it to all the campaigns that haven’t raised any money — and I wouldn’t put it past them,” Cruz told reporters after an event outside of Houston Saturday. “I’ll let Democratic Party strategists worry about their own party’s strategy.”

I mean, he’s not wrong. Democrats seem to like the idea of socialism, in theory, but when it comes to their own finances, they’re markedly less enthusiastic.

Imagine that.

Cruz and O’Rourke are scheduled for a second debate in San Antonio, TX tonight.
