Trump Given a Platform to Defend His Subservience to Putin (and It’s SO Bad) 2018-07-17T10:05:58-04:00 Susan Wright

Possibly the most clear message to emerge from President Trump’s horrific Monday press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin is that Trump was the subservient in that relationship.

Vladimir Putin, a murderous former KGB agent, and the driving force behind a litany of international violations and human rights abuses was obviously in control.

Trump looked weak, off-balance, and he absolutely sold the United States down the river. All those ridiculous memes his glassy-eyed loyalists pump out to social media with such vigor, featuring a youthful, muscular Trump, riding a tank and exuding American machismo – that’s over.

The next round of memes should be Trump in frilly panties and a dog collar.

Please – I’m kidding. No one do this. My stomach can’t take it.

The backlash after the press conference was swift, with few willing to twist the reality of the day into anything other than exactly what it was – Trump bowed, and in doing so, dragged the United States down with him.

“They said they think it’s Russia. I have President Putin; he just said it’s not Russia,” Trump said during the joint press conference with Putin.

“I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be,” the president continued. “So, I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today.”

As expected, there are few willing to consider what Trump did before the world on Monday as a “win.”

Sean Hannity, predictably, was one of the few reliable holdouts on Team Trump, willing to allow for the further descent of the United States, conceding power to Putin’s Russia, simply because to admit the obvious would appear as an insult to Donald Trump.

That’s how cults work.

Hannity gave President Trump a platform to defend his indefensible position to his loyalists on Monday night.

So what could he possibly say that would make things less awful?

Nothing.

Instead, he decided to do what he does best, and shifted blame, deeming special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation the problem.

“It’s driven a wedge between us and Russia,” Trump told Fox News’s Sean Hannity in his first one-on-one interview since meeting face-to-face with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland, earlier in the day. “Maybe we’ve just knocked down that wedge.”

That’s right. Russia’s aggressive actions on the world stage was not the problem. Their attempts to meddle in our nation’s election and to sow discord among our citizens, in order to weaken us, that didn’t “drive a wedge” between us.

I mean, there’s never actually been a close relationship, outside of the cooperation required to stop Nazi Germany so many decades ago, has there?

Hannity simply acted as a bobblehead, allowing Trump to continue on in what should be seen as absolute GARBAGE, perfectly parroting the Russian talking points given him in his meeting with Putin.

“It’s a phony witch hunt, rigged deal,” Trump told Hannity. “We’ve had a phony witch hunt deal drive us apart.”

The president also said that Putin described the impact of the Russia investigation on U.S.-Russia relations as “a shame” during their closed-door session.

“It’s a sad thing,” Trump said. “It’s a very sad thing for our country to see this.”

What’s sad is for the country to see a sitting U.S. president hand the keys of the free world over to a cruel despot.

Trump tried to clarify his position with a tweet on Monday evening.

Trump later clarified his remarks amid backlash, writing on Twitter, “As I said today and many times before, ‘I have GREAT confidence in MY intelligence people.’ However, I also recognize that in order to build a brighter future, we cannot exclusively focus on the past – as the world’s two largest nuclear powers, we must get along!”

I don’t like the way he emphasized “MY.” They’re not yours, little Donnie. They work for the good of the American people and you threw them under the bus.

For Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, Jeanine Pirro, and any others attempting to justify Trump’s acquiescence to our foes, you have proven yourselves to be enemies of this nation and are acting in direct opposition to our well-being.

Congress and federal investigators should react accordingly.
