Three cheers for actor Chris Pratt. The big screen star of Marvel superhero flicks, “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2,” “Avengers: Infinity War” brought his superhero persona to the small screen on Monday night, as he accepted an MTV Movie “Generation Award” for his work.

To a wildly cheering audience full of millennials, Pratt accepted his award, saying that as their elder, he was going to drop some wisdom on the next generation: Nine Rules from Chris Pratt, Generation Award Winner.

Pratt is a funny guy. He’s also an outspoken Christian, and he did something awesome!

He took his time at the mic, in front of a receptive crowd and a TV audience that would likely not get this from anyone else involved in those proceedings, and he managed to weave witness into the night’s fare.

Nine Rules from Chris Pratt

One: Breathe. If you don’t, you’ll suffocate.

Two: You have a soul. Be careful with it.

Three: Don’t be a turd. If you’re strong, be a protector. If you’re smart, be a humble influencer. Strength and intelligence can be weapons. Do not wield them against the weak (that makes you a bully).

Four: When giving a dog medicine, put it in a piece of hamburger. They won’t even know they’re taking medicine.

Wise words. As I learned from multiple failed attempts to give my Beagle, Maggie, meds.

Five: It doesn’t matter what it is – earn it.

I can’t begin to stress enough how important this is for millennials to learn. Next, someone needs to cover the meaning of “earn.”

Pratt’s next rule was blew me away, and he deserves all the kudos for this message.

Six: God is real. God loves you. God wants the best for you. Believe that. I do.

He may never get another award or be invited to another of these functions, but if one person got that message, it was all worth it.

Seven: I won’t talk about this one. Let’s just say, he followed his solid message about God with bathroom humor, in order to keep the crowd on the hook. Yes, it was gross and juvenile, but not overtly offensive, and by this point, you could see what he was doing.

Eight: Learn to pray. It’s easy, and it’s so good for your soul.

Nine: Nobody is perfect. People are going to tell you you’re perfect, just the way you are. You’re not. You are imperfect. You always will be, but there is a powerful force that designed you that way. If you are willing to accept that, you will have grace, and grace is a gift. And like the freedom that we enjoy in this country, that grace was paid for by somebody else’s blood. Do not forget it. Don’t take it for granted.

Pratt finished his speech with “God bless you,” and it was amazing.

The man may never be in a church pulpit with his message, but he brought church to the crowd Monday night in an ingenious fashion. It’s obvious he thought about it, and how he would work the message in – Soul, God is real, pray, and grace.

Christians are in a battle, and staying behind the church walls won’t draw others to the Kingdom. Pratt took his faith mainstream, so for that, he deserves all the kudos.
