What Life in Small-Town America Looks Like to Me

What Life in Small-Town America Looks Like to Me 2015-01-18T13:13:33-07:00 Joseph Susanka

My wife and I are still in the “giddy with excitement” stage. …a stage which is pretty much indistinguishable from the “really not getting anywhere near enough sleep from now until forever or at least 2030” stage, come to think of it. So I guess I’m not entirely sure what stage we’re in at the moment.

It sure feels giddy, though.

The boys are giddy, too. Mostly because of Phoebe, but also because of this picture. Which appeared on Sunday and which reminds me of why I love this town so much. (Well, this, and the winter. Because I’m strange that way.)

SmallTown

We still don’t know who did it — You can request a shout-out from the Dairy Land folks for a small fee (to avoid double-bookings) — but it sure made our day. Especially Dominic’s. (The two of us were on our way to Safeway when we saw it, and his head pretty much exploded with the excitement. If you make it up onto the Dairy Land sign, you know you’ve arrived. In Small-Town America. Which is right where I want to be.)

He swore me to secrecy, and when we got home, he demanded that Sarah take her iPad (aka, the only camera we’ve had for the past few days) and come with him. Refused to tell her where they were going. And was well-rewarded for his efforts by her matching excitement. (Yes, I’m pretty sure he’s still smiling about it today.)

Also, I’m happy to report that Phoebe’s still cute. So we’ve got that going for us, at least. To comfort us as we NotSleep for the foreseeable future.
