Google Translate, you’re doing it wrong. (Or is that “doing it very, VERY right?“)

I can’t belt like Idina Menzel, but I can mess around with Google translate. That software can really destroy a song…and yet make it way too funny not to share.

By way of comparison:

The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
Not a footprint to be seen
A kingdom of isolation
And it looks like I’m the queen

The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn’t keep it in, heaven knows I tried

Don’t let them in, don’t let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know
Well, now they know

Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door

I particularly love the way the escalating series of Google translations changed “Let It Go” to “Give Up.” That…doesn’t seem entirely faithful. (I am also exceedingly amused by the fact that Malinda Kathleen Reese’s video has almost 600,000 views [UPDATED: “over 600,000”], and her previous “Most Viewed” has 4,000. She must be thrilled.)

I haven’t seen the film, so I suspect the “translation” is more amusing to me because I lack any context on which to hang it. But it was a hilarious few minutes. And then I got distracted by the translating prospects:

These “good times, this time was the worst; this silly age of wisdom, the old belief that you do not trust your age; it is outside the spotlight of the off-season, that spring of despair, the dark winter season before us; no one is anything before us; we go to heaven, we change the way we go …

My thoughts exactly, Google Translate. My thoughts exactly.
