About
Daniel Kirk writes and speaks about the big story of the Bible and how it intersects with life, faith, and culture. If it all comes together just right, he hopes his work will help Christians express their faith in ways that lead to the greater flourishing of the world. This is why he keeps writing about Jesus, power, sex, and money.
The best thing you could possibly do for yourself and your Christian community is to invite Daniel to speak. Drop him an email to make arrangements: daniel[at]jrdkirk.com.
You can find Daniel’s weekly Lectionary commentary podcast at LectioCast.com and subscribe to it on iTunes. Even if you don’t preach or use the Revised Common Lectionary, this is an entertaining way to engage in some regular conversation around biblical texts. Also, if you subscribe it will help Daniel get a better book deal and send his kids to college one day. So… go do that.
Daniel earned a Ph.D. in New Testament from Duke University and taught in a variety of institutions over a ten-year teaching career. He is currently Pastoral Director for San Francisco at the Newbigin House of Studies.
His third book, A Man Attested by God argues that we should read the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke as stories about Jesus as an idealized human figure. It’s hot off the presses, so you’ll want to check it out.
In his more humble moments Daniel claims to have unlocked Romans and to have deployed his interpretive magic to turn Paul-haters into card-carrying members of the Apostle Paul Fan Club.
Daniel lives in San Francisco with his wife Laura and two school-aged children. When he’s not entertaining his dog or laboring on some home renovation project he is crafting in the kitchen to keep his refrigerator stocked with homebrewed Cursing Reverend beer.
