Jesus Doesn’t Have a Plan for Your Life: A Series

Last updated on: September 18, 2016 at 8:18 pm By Steve the Missionary

Welcome to the wrap-up post of my 3 part-video series about Jesus and his alleged plan for your life. I’ve been doing some thinking on this subject for some time, perhaps the last 12 years. There are a lot of oddly-contradictory messages when it comes to the topic of calling, vocation, our personal desires, our personal skills, God’s foreknowledge, and God’s love. The most destructive I’ve seen is, “Jesus has a plan for your life. You will be fully fulfilled... Read more

Last updated on: September 8, 2016 at 4:47 pm By Steve the Missionary

Part 2 of a 3 part series. You can see the first video here. My continuing rant against the notion that Jesus has this rosy little script for your life and that all vocational discernment is is discovering the script. Sorry, it’s not that simple. Dear National Catholic Register, What is Your Problem?

Last updated on: August 23, 2016 at 6:36 am By Steve the Missionary

You don’t fire Mark Shea and Simcha Fisher within a day of each other. You just don’t. The National Catholic Register, owned by EWTN, needs to do better or it will just be a boring collection of media with no strength to resist a Republican Party gone amock. Heaven is Other People: Jean Paul Sartre, Steve Martin, and Broadway

Last updated on: July 28, 2016 at 8:32 am By Steve the Missionary

Pronouncing “Sartre” is hard, ok? Sartre said “Hell is other people.” “Bright Star”, a musical written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, begs to differ. Click here to watch in YouTube. Read more

Country Music and Catholicism Have the Same Problem (Why the Saint’s Wouldn’t Listen to Luke Bryan)

Last updated on: July 22, 2016 at 7:17 am By Steve the Missionary

You can see it when people try to justify their vote for either of our main candidates. We use our vocabulary to justify our selfish and worldly actions. We are MUCH better at *talking* about Catholicism than we are at being Catholic. We are becoming a church of Luke Bryans, God forbid. We need to be a church of Willie Nelsons and Patsy Clines. Shoot, I’d settle for a church full of Shania Twains and Garth Brookses! Read the article... Read more
