I have a request from my friend Father Theodosius Walker at the Syriac Orthodox Monastery of the Holy Martyrs in Plymoth, Indiana.

This monastery provides hospitality and meals to the local poor every day, and they hand out groceries and non-EBT-eligible items like diapers and soap to their guests as well. They’re in the middle of trying to fix their own furnace and plumbing, which will cost thousands, and in the meanwhile they’re especially swamped with guests needing groceries due to the government shutdown. When the people can’t go to the local food bank, they go to the monastery, and the monastery is doing the best they can without many resources during this time of great need for our country’s most vulnerable.

If you live close by the monastery or want to ship them something from Amazon Grocery, the address is PO Box 623 Plymouth, Indiana, 46563. They request that you use that address because the monastery mailbox got run over by a snow plow. The items they’re requesting are: tea and coffee, rice or couscous, flour, sugar, coffee, fruit, salad greens, cucumber, tomatoes, lemons or limes, olives, honey, molasses, French fries, nuts, water bottles, soda, chick peas, lentils, paper napkins, foam plates and bowls, foam cups, cotton kitchen towels, dish liquid, bleach, dryer sheets, fabric softener, pine sol, plastic food storage like Tupperware, Ziploc bags in assorted sizes, 40-45 gallon garbage bags, cold cereal, eggs, pancake mix and syrup, peanut butter and jam, juice, onions, potatoes, carrots, herbs and spices, salt and pepper, beans, canned tomatoes and pasta sauce, tuna, snack bars, juice boxes, and baby wipes.

If you can’t send or bring them anything, of course they accept monetary donations. You can give to their paypal account which is right here, and you can make out a check to the Monastery of the Holy Martyrs and mail it to that same PO box address. And regardless, please assist them with their prayers as they pray for all of their donors.

And as always, I thank all my readers for hearing the cry of the poor.
