I just read a very powerful piece of writing on the outward manifestations of suffering and how the Church should respond, written by my friend over at “Morphodoxing.”

I encourage all of you to go over and have a look at “The Poor In Spirit.”

Your legs are too broken to try to stand when others stand. Your eyes are too broken to see what others can see. Your heart is too broken to stop crying. You heard of someone named Jesus, who came into the world so that “the blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.” You know you need healing. You only want to touch his robe. You have just enough faith left, just enough hope–just one mustard seed–you know with all your heart if you could just get to this Jesus he would heal you too. And maybe you would still be brokenhearted and maybe you would still not have any eyes, but you would have something better than eyes, something fuller than a whole heart, you would have water such that you would never thirst again, a wellspring of eternal life.

Everything she says goes double for me.
