Journalists are fair and even-handed and only report well vetted facts.  Right?

Ha!

You would think in the wake of a historic terrorist attack that left 49 Americans dead, the media would finally be motivated to cut through all the political BS and would actually want to talk about hard facts.  But, no!

Case and point:

In the wake of the Orlando attack, Florida Congressman Alan Grayson, a Democrat, told CNN’s Erin Burnett:

“If [Matteen] was not able to buy a weapon that shoots off 700 rounds in a minute, a lot of those people would still be alive. That’s exactly right. If somebody like him had nothing worse to deal with than a Glock pistol…he might have killed three or four people and not 50. It’s way too easy to kill people in America today and we have to think long and hard about what to do about that.”

What Grayson said on national television was false. The AR-15 cannot fire 700 rounds per minute. Such an action would be a physical impossibility.

And while Grayson said “a Glock pistol” can only target “three or four people,” the standard magazine for a Glock 19 holds 15 rounds.

But Burnett didn’t challenge Grayson, instead she told him, “You’re right about that. Thank you very much.”

And this is just one of the MANY falsehoods that have been spread this week about the AR-15 and gun rights.  Instead of actually doing basic research to find out exactly which guns do what, they continue to spread lies about AR-15s because it fits their political agenda.

For the one millionth time, guns don’t kill people! People kill people!  Or in this case, radical islamic terrorists who hate everything that America stands for kill people.

Sean Davis at the Federalist wrote this week:

Are you ready for a mind-blowing statistic? In 2014, you were six times more likely to be murdered with a knife than you were with a rifle. Knives were the weapon of choice in 1,567 murders in 2014, according to the FBI. It gets crazier. You were also nearly three times more likely to be killed by someone’s fists or feet than you were to be murdered with a rifle. In 2014, 660 people were murdered with what the FBI calls “personal weapons”–hands, fists, feet–compared to 248 with rifles.

In the United States, knives are more deadly than rifles. So are fists. And feet. This is not my opinion. It is an incontrovertible fact. And it’s a fact that highlights a point that far too many people refuse to acknowledge: the human desire to kill is far more deadly than any weapon.

If the Left is serious about protecting Americans from terrorist attacks, then they need to stop using AR-15s as a political scape goat. They need to have real factual conversations about who America’s enemies really are.
