Wait

Last updated on: January 27, 2012 at 1:00 am   By Ragan Sutterfield

Fast from all food or caloric drinks until 5 PM While fasting we are building our ability to wait. Rather than eating the first thing that comes in front of us while we are hungry, we learn to wait until we have what truly satisfies. Consider what it is you’re waiting for spiritually and what promises you a quick fix that you must resist while waiting. Read more

Manipulation

Last updated on: January 26, 2012 at 6:27 am   By Ragan Sutterfield

Resist manipulating how people see you. Do not try to impress anyone with your style, intelligence, creativity, wit. Interact with everyone simply. Be present and other focused. When you feel that you have tried to manipulate how someone sees you, write it down. At the end of the day reflect on each of these instances and pray that God will help you resist the temptation in similar situations in the future. Memorize

Last updated on: January 25, 2012 at 6:33 am   By Ragan Sutterfield

Print off Romans 12:9-21. Carry the verses in your pocket. Read and reread them. Memorize them and continue to work on memorizing this passage for the remainder of the week. _______________________________________ “The primary freedom we have is always the choice of where we will place our minds…To that end memorization is vital. It is astonishing how little of the Bible is known “by heart” by people who profess to honor it. If we do not know it how can it... Read more

Different Gifts

Last updated on: January 24, 2012 at 1:04 am   By Ragan Sutterfield

By the time you read this you will have already experienced many gifts–the muscles that contract to allow your body to move out of bed, the gift of someone’s time to teach you to read, the gift of the innovation and labor that made the internet itself possible. Make a list of all the gifts you’ve experienced between the moment you woke up and now. Look over the list and consider how many are gifts are wholly good like muscles... Read more

What is Gospel?

Last updated on: January 23, 2012 at 5:23 am   By Ragan Sutterfield

Read the Gospel of Mark Try to read all of it today, but if you can’t read all of it, read as much as you can. Space out your reading, carry the Gospel with you and read it in the bits and chunks of time you have throughout the day. Ask yourself, what is the “good news” of Mark? Read more

Unburden

Last updated on: January 22, 2012 at 1:00 am   By Ragan Sutterfield

On the Sabbath we are called to not only unburden ourselves from labor, but also those who labor on our behalf including animals and people. Resist requiring anyone to labor for you. Spend some time reflecting on who labors for you and work to unburden them on future Sabbaths so that they too can relish in the delight of the Sabbath rest. Read more
