Is There A Right Way And A Wrong Way To Pray?: A Closer Look
Different religions have different ways that they suggest to pray. For many, prayer is done in private. For others, prayer is done based on traditions, preferences, and beliefs. Many find great comfort in prayer. The following are some concepts of prayer.
Sincerity
Prayer should always be approached with sincerity and genuine intention. Your words in your prayer should come from your heart and deep innermost thoughts. Your prayer doesn’t have to be filled with powerful intricate words, rather, heartfelt and sincere thoughts and words.
Gratitude
Many prefer to thank God for their blessings and then pray for what they desire or feel they need. Going this route creates a positive mindset and a deeper connection with God.
Clarity
Have you ever prayed, asked God for patience, and then gone through a really trying time in life? It’s important to clarify what you’re praying for. Consider what you’re praying for before you begin to pray. Ask succinctly for God’s guidance, strength, forgiveness, or a specific desire.
Faith
Don’t be a doubting Thomas; have faith that your prayers are being heard even when you don’t feel like they’re being heard. Remember the Footprints poem. When you feel as if God isn’t there, perhaps he is carrying you and your burden. Trust in God’s divine wisdom and timing for all things.
Consistency
Be consistent. Pray on a regular basis. Being consistent helps to establish a routine and works to deepen your spiritual connection. Consistency allows you to experience the benefits of God’s love and prayerfully.
Silence
Exodus 14:14 tells us to “Be still and listen.” It’s long been said that silence is golden, but another benefit of silence is that it gives us an opportunity to listen to what God is telling us. Instead of keeping our minds occupied with background noise at all times, unplug and listen to God’s soft, gentle voice in your heart.
Reflection
Use your prayer time as a time to reflect on God’s grace. This walks hand-in-hand with the silence. Only when we unplug from all of the background sounds and noises can we reflect on God and their impact on our lives.
Community
The Bible states, “Where two or more are joined together in prayer, there He is in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:19-20. It can be a powerful experience to join together in prayer or participate in a group prayer. This is how prayer chains and prayer services work.
Study His Word
In addition to prayer, it’s important to study and contemplate the sacred teachings and texts. Great inspiration is found in God’s word. It can open our eyes to insightful lessons, and it can work to deepen our understanding of God’s love and spiritual principles.
Humility
In all things, give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Rejoin in the Lord; always pray without ceasing and give thanks regardless of your circumstances.
Action
Remember, it’s not just about asking for guidance and help; it’s also about aligning your actions with your values and beliefs. Our actions speak far louder than words.
The best way to pray is to recognize that our words have no meaning if our actions don’t align with our words. What gives you inner peace and connection?
What Does The Bible Say About Prayer?
In Matthew 6: 9-13, we are instructed on how to pray. This passage of the Bible is referred to as The Lord’s Prayer. Many churches use The Lord’s Prayer as a group prayer during a church service, and it is also recited in AA and NA meetings.
In Philippians 4: 6-7, “Be anxious for nothing but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving present your request to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Finally, in James 5: 16 “Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

God Has Time To Listen If We Have Time To Pray.
