Does God Hear Your Prayers When You’re Not Practicing Faith?

This is a complicated question. The answer to whether or not God hears prayers when you’re not practicing faith can vary on one’s belief system. Different religions and philosophical perspectives use different viewpoints on the question.

Many religions teach that God is always listening. This would then mean he can hear us, even when we’re not necessarily right with him. God extends compassion to those who are in need. He is omnipotent and omnipresent in our lives. If we call out to God, He is there for us. All we have to do is call to Him.

2nd Samuel 22:4-7

Some may argue that if you’re not right with Him, he isn’t going to be there for you. However, the scriptures disagree with this. In 2nd Samuel 22:4-7, David called out to the Lord and the Lord heard his distress call.

The very act of calling out to God is a prayer. God is listening; therefore, God hears our prayers, even when we’re not right with Him. Let’s face it: we all have days when everything seems wrong. No matter how hard we try to right the day, it still goes downhill.

The other day, I was having a rough day like that and just wanted to go back to bed and stay there. Instead, I dressed, washed my face, combed my hair, and knelt in prayer. I cried out to God that I wasn’t sure how to proceed and I needed His wisdom and guidance. I felt a peace fall over me, and I received a sweet message from a dear friend that she just felt like she needed to pray for me, and then she called to see if I was okay. As simple as that, my day turned around.

Fellowship With Like-Minded Individuals

When we actively engage in our belief system and practice our faith, we often answer ourselves without thinking about it. What’s more, those we fellowship with reach out to us and help lift us up when we’re struggling.

It’s easy to isolate ourselves when things are going wrong; however, I’ve discovered that when I reach out on those days that I’m having a rough time and share my struggle with one of my friends, I am often comforted and there is someone there to lean on that helps me to be more successful.

Don’t isolate yourself just because you’re having a rough day. Wash your face. Comb your hair. Put on something nice and step out of your comfort zone. Matthew 6: 17-20

Trust In Him

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways, submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

When I was a young teen, I ran away. I caused my parents great worry. I found my way back home about two weeks later, and a dear friend of mine made me a plaque that I use as my “mantra” when I’m having a bad day to this very day. The plaque read:
