Kids Want to Spend Time With Family
Last updated on: August 8, 2019 at 7:02 pm By Sarah Hamaker
Did we really need a study to tell us that kids crave more bonding time with their families? Probably not, but the statistics uncovered by OnePoll in a Red Robin (yes, the burger chain) commissioned study found that 73% of American kids would like more opportunities to bond with their family. Parents also want more time with the kids, with 70% saying they don’t spend enough quality time together. What’s even more helpful, the survey also asked what activities children... Read more

Sleeping Into the School Year
Last updated on: August 5, 2019 at 8:18 pm By Sarah Hamaker
By guest blogger Terri Reed When my kids were little, summers were about having fun, staying up later than during the school year, sleeping in and staying active the rest of the day. But about halfway through summer, when we would receive the list of supplies for their classes, I would start to dread that first few weeks of school. I knew what a struggle it would be for the kids, and me, to adjust to a new school year... Read more

To Everything There is a (Parenting) Season
Last updated on: May 22, 2019 at 11:54 pm By Sarah Hamaker
The following is an excerpt from my podcast, “You’ve Got This.” Have you ever thought about parenting as seasonal? At times, you may feel you’re making little progress in raising your kids, so it can help if you think of child-rearing as fitting into four distinct seasons. Season One is the Season of Service, which is from birth to age 2. This is the season where the mother orbits around the child. This is the exhausting season! You often operate... Read more

The Blessing of Siblings
Last updated on: May 18, 2019 at 7:08 pm By Sarah Hamaker
Parents often plan how many kids to have based on the number of children they think they can handle. Sometimes, that number is influenced by their own childhoods or by seeing how the children of relatives or friends behave. What parents usually fail to consider is what a healthy relationship with brothers and sisters gives a child. Almost from the time of our birth, we share with siblings our most intimate thoughts, ideas, and dreams. Together, we explore, collaborate, conspire,... Read more
