How Evangelicalism Trains People to Fear Reality
Last updated on: August 20, 2026 at 1:25 pm By Stuart Delony
There’s a strange moment that happens to a lot of people leaving Evangelicalism. You expect some grand rebellion. Maybe fireworks. Maybe liberation. Maybe the sky to crack open while Chris Tomlin plays faintly in the distance. Instead, you buy groceries on a Sunday morning and feel guilty for no reason. You question a pastor’s political rant and immediately feel anxious, like God just opened a file on you somewhere. You hear someone say “trust yourself,” and your nervous system reacts... Read more

The Bootstrap Paradox of Faith
Last updated on: August 20, 2026 at 1:26 pm By Stuart Delony
There is a moment in Interstellar that has tied people into knots for years. Cooper gets the coordinates to NASA because future Cooper gives them to him — transmitted through a bookshelf, inside a black hole, across time. The mission only happens because the mission already happened. The coordinates exist because the coordinates already existed. Nobody knows where the coordinates came from. That is the bootstrap paradox: when something has no real point of origin because it is trapped inside... Read more

The Cloning Problem in Christianity
Last updated on: August 20, 2026 at 1:27 pm By Stuart Delony
Scientists recently discovered that repeatedly cloned mice eventually started falling apart. At first, the clones seemed fine. They survived. They reproduced. They looked more or less normal. But as the generations continued, the copies became unstable. Genetic mutations stacked up. The further they got from the original, the more fragile and distorted the clones became until eventually they could no longer survive. It turns out that making copies of copies of copies has consequences. Which brings us to American Christianity.... Read more

Why Humans Need Stories That Don’t Pretend to Be God
Last updated on: August 20, 2026 at 1:27 pm By Stuart Delony
Christians love mocking mythology. Zeus throwing lightning bolts. Thor with a hammer. Athena popping out of someone’s head fully armored. Primitive people making up stories to explain thunder and crops. And yet those same Christians will turn around and insist their own sacred narrative is not myth at all—it’s literal, historical, divinely dictated reality. Apparently every culture in human history created myths… except the one you happened to be born into. The irony is almost impressive. Human beings are myth-making... Read more

When a Pastor Falls — and Why the Ending Never Changes
Last updated on: August 20, 2026 at 1:29 pm By Stuart Delony
You know this story. You’ve known it long enough that the details have stopped surprising you and started arriving like weather — something to be noted, endured, and waited out. The names barely matter. Call him Mark. Or Tony. Or any pastor-shaped silhouette you’ve watched rise, collapse, apologize, disappear, and reappear holding a microphone again. A church grows. A personality rises. Certainty hardens. Then something breaks. A statement appears — brokenness, healing, accountability, “a season.” Time passes. Then: a new... Read more

Tom Bombadil and the God Who Won’t Manage Your Life
Last updated on: August 20, 2026 at 1:29 pm By Stuart Delony
Years ago I read The Fellowship of the Ring to my kids before bed. Hobbits were fine. The Nazgûl were terrifying but manageable. A dark lord forging a ring to dominate the world? Surprisingly easy for kids to track. Then Tom Bombadil showed up, and they immediately knew something was wrong. Not scary wrong. Not villain wrong. Just… off. They kept asking the same question: “Why is he here?” That is exactly the right reaction. Bombadil feels like he walked... Read more

Please Remain Seated
Last updated on: August 20, 2026 at 1:30 pm By Stuart Delony
Life, as Arthur Schopenhauer once suggested, is a bus ride—not a scenic tour or a cushy charter, but a crowded, grimy city bus. You didn’t choose to board. You don’t control the route. You can’t get off early. You’re crammed shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers, many of whom are annoying, oblivious, or actively hostile. There’s no clear driver in sight, no map, and no explanation of where this thing is going—just the dull hum of motion and the occasional existential draft from... Read more

Religion, Politics, and Hustle Culture Run the Same Con
Last updated on: August 20, 2026 at 1:32 pm By Stuart Delony
The Four Lies We Keep Buying Human history is basically one long con, and we’ve been the eager customers. From pulpits to podiums to billboards, the message has been remarkably consistent: you’re not enough, but good news — we’ve got the fix. It’s the world’s oldest MLM scheme, and somehow we still keep signing up. Religion, politics, culture, and economics all run on the same operating system: manufacture lack, then sell belonging. The packaging changes every generation. The hustle is... Read more

What the Hell, Rob Bell
Last updated on: August 20, 2026 at 1:33 pm By Stuart Delony
This isn’t a theory. It’s a timeline. Rob Bell built a career passing off borrowed ideas as spiritual insight—and the source material has been hiding in plain sight since 2002. It just happened to be coming out of Canada with a guitar and better timing. And once you see it, it’s difficult to unsee. In March 2002, Avril Lavigne releases her debut single, “Complicated,” a song built on one simple frustration: why does everything have to be so fake, so... Read more

Jesus Loves You, Now Shut Up
Last updated on: August 20, 2026 at 1:41 pm By Stuart Delony
How Christianity Perfected the Thought-Terminating Cliché Every culture has its slogans. Politicians toss them around like candy (“family values,” “freedom isn’t free”). Corporations brand them on our brains (“just do it,” “have it your way”). They’re shortcuts—easy words meant to skip the hard work of nuance. But when churches baptize slogans? They become sacred. They get stitched on throw pillows, slapped on coffee mugs, and treated like wisdom handed down from Sinai. And in the process, Christianity has become a... Read more
