[smart_podcast_player] Do you read books about justice and feel like you’re just not “radical” enough to help? Ever wonder what peace looks like in your life? Fun Announcement for the Shalom in the City Podcast

Last updated on: January 20, 2017 at 10:49 am By Osheta Moore

Hey Sistas, I’m so excited to share this special episode of Shalom in the City because I’ve been excited to share with you something I’ve been working on the podcast for FOR MONTHS. Actually, I’ve been wanting to provide this for you here on the show since before I started it. When I dreamed of starting a podcast I knew three things about myself: One: I’m obsessed with talking about Shalom. So I knew my podcast had to be all... Read more

Shalom Steps When You’re Heartbroken About the Election

Last updated on: November 9, 2016 at 2:08 pm By Osheta Moore

I’m sitting in a dark room listening to Yo Yo Ma and crying over the election. I didn’t realize I was so invested in it— but I do. I have biracial kids, y’all. They look at and read the things I’ve written about peacemaking and race and they ask me, “Mom. Are you going to be safe if Trump is elected? He hates writers who disagree with him and black people.” What do I say now? I’m completely out of... Read more

Shalom Steps For When You See Racial Profiling

Last updated on: November 6, 2016 at 3:55 am By Osheta Moore

This has been a poignant week around race for me. I worked on the chapter for “Shalom Sistas” about body image and embracing my identity as a black woman and watched the documentary 13th by Ava DuVernay on Netflix. It was fantastic. Well made, fast moving, informative and stirring. I was crying by the end. It was one of the most powerful, “me too” moments I’ve had on this journey towards racial wholeness. But what made this week... Read more

Shalom Book Club #7! Love Warrior

Last updated on: October 10, 2016 at 4:54 pm By Osheta Moore

On the podcast today is the seventh edition of the “Shalom Book Club” where once a month, my friend Cara Meredith joins me to talk about a book. Like I said in the first episode of this series this is partly to solve a very real problem I have- I simply can’t work in a book club in my week here in L.A.. This month we read the “Love Warrior” By Glennon Doyle Melton. Stats: 259 pages, 15... Read more

Day 5 of Subversive Joy: Anchor Day

Last updated on: October 7, 2016 at 2:39 am By Osheta Moore

Today is Thursday, Joy Hack Day. This morning, I was having an “I hate L.A. pity party” I get these every so often— especially now that we’re entering autumn and I’m missing Boston. So, I declared that today is my Anchor Day, and I will do everything I can to find one thing I love about L.A. So, the first thing I did was turn on the podcast, Happier with Gretchen Rubin (which is like a booster shot of joy)... Read more

Day 4 of Subversive Joy: The Video Interview that Started it All

Last updated on: October 5, 2016 at 4:59 am By Osheta Moore

I can’t tell you how much I love these thoughts from theologian Willie James Jennings on joy. I found this in August when I started thinking about joy in the midst of heartbreak. What he says is spot on and timely! Read more

Last updated on: October 4, 2016 at 3:53 am By Osheta Moore

I’m so excited for y’all to meet Carrie Wilson. Carries is passionate about create safe spaces for women who struggle with sexual shame in the church, specifically those who have been diagnosed with an STD. Day 2 of Subversive Joy: Even More Undignified Than This

Last updated on: October 3, 2016 at 5:05 am By Osheta Moore

This afternoon, I post my our dance party video to the Instagram and y’all…I struggled to re-watch it. When I looked at the video, I didn’t see my daughter and I having fun, I didn’t see a super cute night shirt (I mean, come on..”straight outta bed”…hilarious!), I didn’t see my (finally) clean kitchen…no I saw my curves. I saw the extra pounds around my middle section. And I felt shame. This is why it took me the WHOLE... Read more
