Today I want to share a quick story with you. It may actually be more insight into the woman I married than anything else but I think it’s worth sharing.
Sunday morning, I woke up at 9:15 in the morning. That never happens. In fact, I wake up at 5:30 just about every day because that’s when Samuel wakes up and that’s when I heat his bottle and put him in bed with Catherine. But Sunday was different, Catherine got Samuel out of bed and let me sleep. And apparently sleep is what I needed. I think my body was just about out of gas from a weeks worth of early morning wake-ups.
Sleeping in was great for recharging my body but the downside was that we didn’t have enough time to make it to church so instead, we watched our church service live online from my IPad. Catherine, Samuel and I were all huddled up on the couch listening to the worship band play songs which always leads the service. About halfway through the worship music, our church’s worship leader stopped to address the audience. He said something you’ve probably heard if you’ve attended a protestant church before. It was along the lines of, “Whether everything is going well for you at the moment, or whether you feel broken and alone, God has you here for a reason and he has a plan for you.” Meaningful for sure, but it’s something I’ve heard a thousand times and I don’t think I paid much attention to it. It was then, I hear a soft sniffling from my wife. I look over and she’s crying.
I asked her why she was crying and she said, “We are just so blessed. I love our life so much and I’m so thankful for it all.”
It’s moments like these that really convict me. I think I try to be thankful for my life’s blessings but my wife’s outpouring of emotion in response to her thankfulness and gratitude to God for the blessings in her life make me realize I need to slow down and really take inventory of God’s goodness. I need to be more like Catherine.
So that’s it. That’s my story and I hope you’ll take a second and appreciate your blessings today.
