I write the following post for no other reason than to show you guys that Catherine and I are normal. Well, relatively normal. We’re also pretty freakin’ weird but that’s for another post at another time.
If you thought it was all champagne and roses for us after riding off into the sunset in Thailand on the back of an elephant just after our engagement, then you are wrong. Oh so very wrong. This is a story about true love and real life. Enjoy…
Catherine and I have been very busy the last few weeks. We’ve been traveling a ton and we haven’t had a lot of time to ourselves. So now that we’re home in Dallas, we both decided that last night would be a good time to have a date night- a night where we can get out of the house and enjoy each other with no distractions. We normally try to have a date night once a week but because of the travel it had been at least three weeks since our last. Needless to say, we were both looking forward to it.
Now let me tell you about how date night works. Sometimes Catherine chooses what we do, sometimes I choose, and sometimes its a collaborative effort. But one thing is a constant, we always try to make it creative and new. In other words, we try to avoid just doing dinner and a movie every time. So last night was my turn to choose what we would do and I came up with the idea to see a stage play at a local theater not far from our house. I kept it a surprise until we got to the venue and once Catherine figured out what we were doing, she was excited. She’d never been there before (she’s big on firsts) and she loves plays. It appeared as if I nailed date night.
Once inside the venue, we grabbed our seats and looked at the menu (they serve food too). Because I will look for any excuse to not eat healthy, I rationalized that we should order nachos and pizza since it was date night. The food comes and as usual, I devour most of it like an animal while Catherine eats a reasonable amount like a normal person would. Soon after, the lights dim and the play begins.
