The Bachelor is entering its 19th season — nineteen! — and Chris Soules is in for an adventure!  (New York is ready for the show — check out what’s being advertised over Times Square tonight.)

Here are five things that every Bachelor needs to know, in order to make the most of this sometimes awkward situation.

1) If a girl says “I love you” on your first date together, run!

I’m not sure if Chris will encounter this problem but this is sound advice. See past the good looks and notice the crazy. It’ll save you a lot of drama later on.

2) Don’t sugar coat it when you send the girls home.

Let the girls know exactly why you don’t see it working out with them so they’re not left guessing months after the show is filmed, and you won’t be the guy answering the “I just don’t get why he dumped me” questions during “Women Tell All.”

3) You’re not going to stay in good shape. Accept it.

Every bachelor works out really hard before filming to get in shape for the gratuitous shirtless beach shots on the show but that won’t last. Being the the bachelor is one of the most exhausting jobs I can think of. Your days start early and end late. You’re going to start eating room service and you won’t have time to workout. It is what it is. Embrace it.

4) Half the chicks are nuts.

So as I’ve written before, the producers cast half of the women as potential matches for the bachelor and cast the other half as crazy chicks who make good TV. The hard part is differentiating the two. Good luck Chris!

5) This dumb, silly, drama-filled show can change your life forever.

I’m living proof that this show can completely flip your life upside down. I never imagined I’d meet my wife in such a ridiculous setting, yet it happened. I found my best friend and eventual wife on this silly show and I’m hoping Chris will do the same.
