“My Philosophy,” an essay by L. Ron Hubbard, is a great way to get to know the founder of the Scientology religion. Watch a video of L. Ron Hubbard’s essay “My Philosophy” on the Scientology Network. This philosophy laid the groundwork for his life’s work. And it was the driving force behind his research into the mind, spirit and life. It influenced the more than 500,000 pages he wrote and 3,000 lectures he delivered.
So what did L. Ron Hubbard believe?
The first principle of L. Ron Hubbard’s philosophy
In his essay” My Philosophy” L. Ron Hubbard made a very succint statement of what he believed. “The first principle of my own philosophy is that wisdom is meant for anyone who wishes to reach for it.” Additionally, he specifically stated it “should never be regarded with awe.” What’s more, he describes “scholars” who make the subject complicated and hard to understand as “selfish.” And he asserted that they “seldom forgive anyone who seeks to break down the walls of mystery and let the people in.”
Hence, he shared his research freely with everyone.
The second principle: Philosophy must be capable of being applied.
As he continued his essay, L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “The second principle of my own philosophy is that it must be capable of being applied.” And the third principle follows logically.
The third principle: It is a route to knowledge
“A philosophy can only be a route to knowledge.” wrote Hubbard. “It cannot be knowledge crammed down one’s throat. If one has a route, he can then find what is true for him. And that is Scientology.
“Know thyself—and the truth shall set you free.
“Therefore, in Scientology we are not concerned with individual actions and differences. We are only concerned with how to show Man how he can set himself or herself free.
“This, of course, is not very popular with those who depend upon the slavery of others for their living or power. But it happens to be the only way I have found that really improves an individual’s life.”
