I don’t fancy myself a journalist or a reporter and I am not one to try and invent the “news,” but this is a very big deal.

From Catholic Culture:

Pope Francis and Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople have agreed to plan for an ecumenical council to be held in Nicea in 2025, the AsiaNews service reports.

Vatican Insider has confirmed it.

Even the possibility of this happening makes me tingle with excitement.

For my usual version of the news, read “The Weekly Apocalypse.”

Happy Friday!

UPDATE

Catholic Culture has amended its earlier language as follows:

Pope Francis and Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople have agreed to plan for an ecumenical meeting to be held in Nicea in 2025, the AsiaNews service reports.

This certainly downgrades the historical significance and overall impact, but I remain just as hopeful as before. As I said before, it is the possibility here that tingles.
