This is a song I have been playing with that I would like to share. With all of the focus on Spring and new beginnings, I got to thinking about the bizarre, yet pervasive, equation of youth and sexuality in our culture.  Sexual repression and fear of aging is endemic in our society.  It gets boring. I felt the urge to celebrate something very different for Beltane.  An ode to maturity, or at least adult distractions and refined acts of pleasure, which are Her rituals.  This is for all of us that are not only getting older, we are getting better! It was a fun one to write.  Enjoy!

May Eve

First buds of Spring are curled so tight.

Hard and green in the pale moonlight.

Full red blossoms I seek tonight,

Come, be my Lover ’till the morning.

A gentle bite, a well-place pinch,

I’ll win your favors inch by inch.

No need to feign that Maiden’s flinch,

Come, be my Lover ’till the morning.

Divine woman, my aim is true.

Dance with me in the grass and dew.

My Queen, I’ll wear the Horns for you,

Come, be my Lover ’till the morning.

Where’s the sport in a two-point buck?

The larger the rack, the greater the luck.

Avoid young fawns who tend to get stuck,

Come, be my Lover ’till the morning.

Fresh young saplings sprout up so quick.

Solid Hickory does the trick,

Older the wood, the stronger the stick.

Come, be my Lover ’till the morning.

Let’s go out in the restless night,

Away from crowds and far from sight.

Let’s discover our heart’s delight.

Come, be my Lover ’till the morning.
