LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

If you’ve ever wondered who’s on the other end of the line when a faith-based actor, director, or musician sits down for an interview, there’s a good chance it’s DeWayne Hamby.

DeWayne is a longtime entertainment journalist and the voice behind Reel Faith, one of Patheos’s most active blogs, where he covers the intersection of faith and popular culture — from film reviews and trailer breakdowns to in-depth conversations with the people making faith-driven entertainment happen. Just this month he’s published pieces on the Nick Vujicic documentary No Limbs, No Limits, the Rings of Power Season 3 trailer reveal, worship leader Paul Baloche’s journey to the big screen in House of Worship, Michael W. Smith joining the biblical epic Daniel as a producer, and the upcoming 9/11 Reunited documentary.

Over the course of his career, DeWayne has conducted hundreds of interviews with award-winning actors, directors, beloved music icons, and bestselling authors — names like Harry Connick Jr., CeCe Winans, Amy Grant, Kristy Swanson, and Elizabeth Tabish, to name just a few. His social media clips of those conversations have collectively garnered more than 20 million views. His work has been referenced or featured in Rolling Stone (Brazil), Us Weekly, Charisma, Movieguide, The Blaze, and BeliefNet.

DeWayne is a member of the Critics’ Choice Association, hosts the Reel Faith with DeWayne Hamby podcast (available on Apple Podcasts and YouTube), and has served in advisory communications and marketing roles for various nonprofit organizations. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Lee University and lives in the Atlanta area with his wife and three daughters.

Hamby has this to say about contributing to Patheos: “I love having conversations that inspire and challenge me. As a Patheos writer, so many doors have opened to have more of these connections. I feel like the editors value my contributions and trust my judgment, giving me the freedom to pursue whatever topics relevant to faith and culture I encounter.”

He offers up this advice to future Patheos contributors: “The world needs your voice and Patheos allows and encourages you to use it. Take advantage of that opportunity. Speak into the cultural conversations happening with your own individual perspective.”
