LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

Paul Louis MetzgerDr. Metzger is a member of the Center of Theological Inquiry, Princeton, New Jersey, and Senior Mission Scholar–Spring 2018, at the Overseas Ministries Study Center, New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Metzger is the Founder and Director of The Institute for Cultural Engagement: New Wine, New Wineskins at Multnomah University and Seminary. He serves as New Wine’s catalyst for cultivating a community of people brought together around a shared vision of bearing witness to Christ in contemporary culture. Dr. Metzger is a published author and has been contributing to Patheos since 2012. Integrating theology and spirituality with cultural sensitivity stands at the center of Dr. Metzger’s ministry vision. He and his wife, Mariko, a native of Japan, have been active in intercultural ministry in churches in the States, Japan, and England.

The Metzgers have two children and one grandchild. Paul has a keen interest in the art of Katsushika Hokusai and Georges Rouault, the writings of John Steinbeck, and the music of Johnny Cash, The Doors, and Nirvana.

When asked what he enjoys about contributing to Patheos, Paul said, “I have appreciated how Patheos provides space for a diversity of perspectives and freedom to share openly yet civilly in pursuit of clarity and the common good.”

Paul has this advice for Patheos contributors, “Speak from your heart and in your own voice, no matter if people resonate with your convictions and style. Seek to account for complexity with intellectual honesty and in a charitable spirit.”
