- How Do You Live Your Best Life?

How Do You Live Your Best Life? 2026-04-22T18:16:42-07:00 Kurt W. Bubna
Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
When I say, “best life” I don’t mean the version where everything works out and every dream lands right on time.
I mean the life where you step into what God wired you for. Where you use what you’ve been given. Where you don’t shrink back.
Because if we’re honest, most people don’t miss their calling because they lack ability. They miss it because they stayed comfortable.
Comfort is predictable. Safe. Manageable.
But it rarely leads to a sense of purpose.
We want a roadmap, but God asks for trust and invites us to step out in faith before we can see where it leads.
At some point, living your best life will require taking risks. Not reckless, but real. The kind where you don’t have all the answers. The kind where you move forward anyway.
I love this quote by Les Brown: “Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears.”
We too often sit and ask a thousand what-if questions.
What if it fails?
What if I’m wrong?
What if people don’t support it?
What if I’m not enough?
What if I lose what I already have?
And slowly, without realizing it, those questions become a cage.
(Read more about the “land of what-if” here.)
Here’s a reality: Most of what you’re worried about hasn’t happened. And a lot of it never will. But it still keeps you stuck.
And stuck has a cost.
What happens when you ignore your calling?
That’s a heavy question to carry.
Because you don’t just stay where you are. You settle. You drift. You trade potential for predictability. And years later, you look back and wonder what could have been.
Some people don’t move forward because of fear.
Others don’t move forward because of their past. They’ve made mistakes. Failed publicly. Took hits they didn’t see coming. And somewhere along the way, they decided they were no longer qualified.
But that’s not how God works.
God qualifies the called. He doesn’t wait for you to have a perfect track record. He works with willing and humble people. Honest people. People who are still standing, even if they’re a little bruised and walk with a limp.
Your past may explain you, but it does not define you.
Your past may tell part of your story, but it does not disqualify you and doesn’t get to decide your future.
So ask yourself this: Where are you choosing safety and convenience when you know you’re called to step out?
You won’t find your best life by avoiding risk.
John Wimber used to say, “Faith is spelled R. I. S.K.”
He’s right.
You find your best life and God’s purpose when you step out of your comfort zone, move into the unknown, and trust Him with what comes next.
In what is commonly known as the great faith chapter in the New Testament, the writer tells us, “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
I would add… Faith is not proven by what you believe, but by what you’re willing to risk.
A safe faith never changes your life. If you’re not embracing uncertainty, you may not be trusting God to guide you toward the life He intends for you.
I’d love to hear from you!
