Episode Description

In his latest book, Seven Things I Wish Christians Knew about the Bible (Zondervan, 2021), Dr. Michael F. Bird writes, “One of the biggest challenges for the church today is not the erosion of inerrancy among millennial Christians; more seriously, it is whether the Bible is in any sense authoritative at all.” It seems that if people are willing to accept that the Bible has something to say, it has to line up with their particular political ideology, and if it doesn’t then they have the right to decide whether those bits are irrelevant or untrue. How can the next generation deal honestly with the Bible, even the stuff that’s hard to understand or might rub us the wrong way?

Dr. Michael F. Bird is an Australian biblical scholar and Anglican priest who writes about the history of early Christianity, theology, and contemporary issues. He is Academic Dean and a lecturer at Ridley College in Melbourne.

Check out his YouTube channel, Early Christian History with Michael Bird.

Dr. Bird is the author of 30 books, including The Gospel of the Lord: How the Early Church Wrote the Story of Jesus (Eerdmans, 2014), Evangelical Theology (2nd edition, Zondervan, 2020), and (with N.T. Wright) The New Testament in its World (Zondervan, 2019).

These books are available from independent Christian booksellers Byron and Beth Borger at Hearts & Minds Bookstore. You can order online through their secure server or call 717-246-333. Mention that you heard about these books on the Reintegrate Podcast and get 20% off!
