Prime Video and Wonder Project announced today that “House of David,” the biblical drama that has drawn more than 40 million viewers worldwide, will return for a third season, a continuation the show’s star says has deepened his own walk with God.

Season Three will carry David “from outcast shepherd to fierce warrior, to his ultimate destiny as King,” according to a studio synopsis, but the journey will not be without cost. “Before the throne, there is exile. David is a hunted outlaw, forced to hide among his enemies and live yet another dangerous lie. This chapter explores the true cost of destiny — the betrayals endured, the identities shed, and the sacrifices demanded of a hero before he can rise to the throne.”

On the red carpet at the K-LOVE Fan Awards, Michael Iskander, who portrays David, said the series’ success has been a spiritual catalyst.

“It’s been life changing for my faith,” he said. “I like to say, I felt dead. Now I’m alive. That’s what happens when Christ touches the heart of many people.” He added that the role has called him to “a deeper, stronger relationship with Him.”

The renewal follows praise from creators Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn, who called the global response “incredibly grateful” and said Season Three will follow “one of the most defining chapters of his life.” Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, CEO of Wonder Project, emphasized the company’s aim to build “enduring franchises rooted in timeless stories that inspire, entertain and bring audiences together.” Kara Smith, head of drama at Amazon MGM Studios, said the show has resonated worldwide and promised “even more of the rich storytelling and compelling performances that have made this show a global success.”

Iskander described the biblical king as “one of the most complex and beautiful biblical characters in the world,” and he said David’s story has a distinct theological trajectory.

“David is — I think one of the greatest examples of these people that just points to Jesus in every way in the Old Testament,” he said. For Iskander, embodying David has been more than a professional milestone; it has been a formational encounter with scripture and God’s work in the heart. “The heart of David . . . I felt like my heart was transformed, and God just touched my heart.”

The series, produced by Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios, has been praised for its cinematic scale and faith-forward storytelling. The ensemble cast for Season Two — which will carry forward into the new installment — includes Ali Suliman as King Saul, Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam, and Stephen Lang as Samuel, with a supporting roster that underscores the project’s international pull.

Studio synopses of Season Three suggest a darker, more introspective chapter. David’s exile and status as a hunted man will set the stage for a narrative that probes what leaders must surrender before they claim their destinies. The series’ creators said they hope both those familiar with Scripture and new viewers will find fresh resonance.

“Whether audiences have known David through Scripture or are encountering him from a fresh perspective, we hope the series continues to reveal why his story has resonated across generations,” Erwin and Gunn said.

Iskander’s commentary on faith extended beyond his character to the broader impact the series has had on viewers and cast alike.

“It really has been taken with so much enthusiasm, and like everybody who watches it, like it just resonates with a lot of people,” he said, noting that the show has been “a blessing to be a part of that.”

As production gears toward Season Three, the creative team and studio executives alike framed the renewal as a partnership rooted in shared conviction.

“We’re grateful to Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios for their continued partnership and shared belief in that vision,” Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten said, promising a continued commitment “to continue the journey with a third season of House of David.”
