Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
Pastor, author and speaker Tony Evans said he launched his new podcast to “give a biblical interface” to conversations with a wide range of guests, and to bring both “biblical truth” and “interest” to discussions that he hopes will “benefit not only the Christian community but the culture.”

“Unbound,” Evans said, has been “percolating for about six months” after his team suggested the format, which moves beyond sermons into a talk-show style that features leaders from diverse backgrounds.
“It is people bringing their particular uniqueness for us to discuss, and bring biblical framing to that discussion,” Evans said. “It’s leaders, it’s … multi-generational, it’s men, it’s women, it’s preachers, it’s theologians, it’s politicians, it’s athletes, so a whole bevy of different people who we get to interface with and bring a biblical perspective to who they are, what they do and how they do it.”
Evans, a longtime pastor, author and radio broadcaster, described the project as both invigorating and experimental.
“They presented that to me. I said, ‘Okay, I’ll give it a shot.’ And the more I’ve done it, the more I’ve enjoyed it,” he said.
“Unbound” aims to tackle contemporary issues through a scriptural lens, Evans said, citing recent international developments as an example of topics that could be explored on the program. He described recent peace agreements as a mixed emotional and theological moment.
“I think there’s a mixture. Certainly, I’m excited for peace and people not being killed and coming to some sort of an agreement to cease and desist. This, this volatile situation, is comforting,” he said.
At the same time, Evans emphasized the need to weigh current events against biblical prophecy. “There’s the eschatological thing,” he said. “The Bible talks about this conflict in the Middle East, and how it will erupt, and there will need to be this, this false peace. And so, you know, you want this to be the real one … but you have to marry the reality of what you see … with the reality of prophecy.”
That dual perspective — celebrating present relief while recognizing prophetic warnings — is intended to shape “Unbound”’s approach to culturally charged conversations. Evans urged listeners not to retreat into fear when discussing end-times speculation.
“We should not be anxious. We should be serving,” he said. “In fact, the more you feel like he’s coming back tomorrow, the busier you should get today. So let your eschatological clock incentivize your ministry service.”
The podcast has already hosted a range of participants while still in its early stages. “I think we’ve done 15 guests so far to begin to get this,” Evans said, citing a lineup that includes “politicians, we’ve had some rappers. We had … housewives, we had some Bible theologians.” He suggested that listeners will be drawn to both the personalities and the theological framing. “But I think what people will enjoy is not only the biblical truth and the interest of interesting personalities, but the fun we’re having doing it,” he said.
Evans also spoke about his family’s involvement in media and ministry, noting that his children, including Priscilla Shirer and Anthony Evans, have taken up public ministries without pressure.
“All of them are serving the Lord. We didn’t force them to do it. We didn’t tell it was part of our lives, and they’ve naturally gravitated to ministry,” he said. He named ongoing projects and roles, including a podcast and public teaching, and reflected on the pride he feels.
“I’m proud of all four of my children,” he said. “My daughter Crystal has a podcast with Women Helping Women all over the country. Priscilla is the superstar. Of course, everybody’s seen movies and her teaching. And then my son Anthony is leading worship all around the world … and Jonathan has taken over the day-to-day responsibilities at the church.”
Evans framed “Unbound” as part of a later season of ministry in which he wants to “maximize what God has given me to the greatest possible purpose for his glory, my good and the benefit of others.” He said the new podcast is an extension of that commitment: a platform to engage culture, faith and leadership with theological clarity and approachable conversation.
Listeners tuning in to “Unbound” can expect episodes that blend current affairs, religious reflection and personal testimony, packaged in a conversational format rather than traditional sermon delivery.
“It’s not going to be sermons,” Evans said. “It’s probably going to be like a talk show kind of thing.” He added that the format offers an opportunity to make Scripture tangible. In advising those visiting religious sites abroad, he said the physical context can “lift the Bible geographically off of the pages of Scripture, and gives you a visual” that deepens engagement.
Tony Evan’s “Unbound” podcast launches January 20.
