Sarah: Obey Your Wife
Last updated on: July 25, 2023 at 12:23 pm By Rebecca Wallace Keene
Sarah, the mother of our faith, was a strong and stubborn woman. Such women are often demonized in religious communities. However, G-d shows us in Sarah’s story that he appreciates a strong woman. In fact, G-d tells Abraham obey your wife, Sarah. Sarah Doesn’t Beleive G-d The story begins with G-d making a promise to Abraham to give him and Sarah a child. Sarah being the stubborn woman she is, does not believe that she can conceive a child in... Read more

Adah and Zilla: The Named Women of The Bible Which Time Forgot
Last updated on: July 19, 2023 at 2:39 pm By Rebecca Wallace Keene
Few women were named in The Bible. For this reason, we know most of their names. If I say, Eve, Sarah, Miriam, or Esther, you instantly know who I am speaking of, but two named women in Genesis often get forgotten. Adah and Zilla were both married to a descendant of Cain. Their story, which is not often told, gives us a lot of important information about life before the flood. Who Are Adah and Zilla Genesis 4:16-17 tells us... Read more

Eve: The Story You Haven’t Heard
Last updated on: July 16, 2023 at 8:42 pm By Rebecca Wallace Keene
This article is the first in a series devoted to Women In the Bible. The first woman in The Bible is Eve. She is often portrayed as the woman who brought sin into the world. This image is largely due to Christian interpretations of the scripture. However, this is not Eve’s true story. In fact, Eve is quite the heroine in the Genesis story. Christianity Has Perverted the Image of Eve The Christian version of the story, which often gets... Read more

G-d’s Chosen and What That Means
Last updated on: July 16, 2023 at 8:26 pm By Rebecca Wallace Keene
In spiritual conversations today, people often discuss being anointed or chosen by G-d. We are told that if we are one of his chosen he will fight our battles and make our enemies bow at our feet. Indeed, this is true. However, Torah teaches us what it means to be G-d’s chosen, and that often looks like walking in humility. With great power comes great responsibility. G-d’s Chosen The story of Joseph teaches us that Joseph was the favored son... Read more

The Medical Case for Circumcision: Science Again Confirms The Torah
Last updated on: July 2, 2023 at 5:36 pm By Rebecca Wallace Keene
Science has often given credence to the laws in The Torah. If you eat shellfish, there is a high risk of allergic reactions and food poisoning. You get a heat rash if you wear mixed fiber clothing in a warm environment. If you eat pork, you have a higher chance of contracting parasites. Circumcision is no different. There is indeed a medical case for circumcision. Science again confirms The Torah. The Medical Case for Circumcision It is popular today to... Read more

Last updated on: June 27, 2023 at 4:21 pm By Rebecca Wallace Keene
As US News reported, Knoxville Tennessee’s bishop resigned after sexual abuse lawsuits. Bishop Richard Stika resigned on June 27, 2023. The bishop stated health reasons were part of his reason for resignation. However, he admitted that the lawsuits which have plagued his ministry contributed to his resignation. National Pink Day: Remember the Holocaust This Holiday
Last updated on: June 21, 2023 at 11:39 pm By Rebecca Wallace Keene
June 23rd is National Pink Day. This day is set aside to oppose bullying and celebrate the color pink. The color pink often represents femininity or softness. For this reason, during The Holocaust gay men, bisexual men, transgender women, and others considered sexual deviants were forced to wear a pink triangle. This National Pink Day, let us remember the Holocaust and those who wore the pink triangle. Let us take a stand against homophobic bullying amongst our people. National Pink... Read more

Archaeological Proof for Deuteronomy and Joshua
Last updated on: June 20, 2023 at 4:42 am By Rebecca Wallace Keene
Joshua 8:30 states, “Then Joshua built on Mount Ebal an altar to the LORD, the God of Israel,”. Until 2019, we had no solid proof to support this verse. However, The Jerusalem Post reported that in 2019 an expedition was led to sift through the material discarded from previous excavations on Mount Ebal. Among that discarded material was found a tablet. That tablet has now undergone x-ray tomographic measurements. The results of that have given us archaeological proof for... Read more

Is Judaism a Community or a Religion First and What Does That Mean?
Last updated on: June 15, 2023 at 4:29 am By Rebecca Wallace Keene
I’ve been rereading Rabbi Kushner’s book To Life this month. June being Pride Month, one thing Kushner said inspired me to think about how we treat the person amongst us who is “different” from the majority of our community. The quote inspired me to ask, is Judaism a community or religion? What does that mean for the LGBT+ community? Kushner wrote: “With no precise definintion of what Judaism believes, you would expect the result to be chaos and anarchy, but it’s... Read more
