Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
With our new radio show The Visitation Project set to launch on May 3rd, I thought it might be fun for everyone to get a chance to meet the crew behind this exciting venture. There are four of us if we include our sound guru Keith, and we can never forget Keith, so I’ll be introducing (or re-introducing) all of us leading up to our launch date. If you have any questions I haven’t asked, please add them in the combox, or tweet them to us @TheVisitProject, and we’ll answer them for you.
Next up is
ME!!!
1. Who are you?
My name is Rebecca Frech (at least it has been ever since I got married a lifetime ago.) I’m the author of a book on homeschooling, the writer of this blog, the mother of seven children (SEVEN!!!…that’s a lot of kids!), CrossFit coach, and a co-host of The Visitation Project.
2. Why did you decide to get involved with The Visitation Project?
I’ve loved doing radio ever since my first on-air interview. It’s pretty much my favorite thing to do ever. I met Heather at the Edel Gathering last summer, and we hit it off. I’ve been teasing (nagging…it was more like nagging) her that we should so a show together. When she called earlier this year to say that someone had actually agreed that we would be funny together on the air – I jumped at the chance.
3. What has been your favorite part so far?
Definitely the oyster shooters with Heather and Bonnie after we wrapped the first batch of shows. We felt like we could take on the world! So instead we gulped down shellfish which is basically the same thing.
We want to really get to know you, so here’s the important stuff:
4. Fill in the blank: When I’m driving and ________________ comes on the radio, I must immediately stop the conversation, crank up the volume, and jam.
Bohemian Rhapsody. I may or may not have thrown things at children who talk during Bohemian Rhapsody. It’s my jam. Also, twangy country tunes and anything by ’80s hair bands. Oh…and The Devil Went Down to Georgia. LOVE!
5. Which book do you read over and over and never tire of?
I have two – Gone With The Wind and The Godfather.
6. Who’s your favorite character in that book and why?
I love Scarlett O’Hara and Vito Corleone equally. They’re basically the same person – ambitious, self-determined, ruthless, fiercely protective of family, and don’t give a cr*p what people think about them.
7. Which saint is your go-to guy/girl in an emergency? Explain.
St Rita is my girl! She chased me for a long time, and now she’s the first saint I go to for help praying. She’s never let me down.
8. When you were growing, what was your dream job?
I wanted to be an author and an Egyptologist. I was obsessed with mummies, funerary objects (canopic jars!), and the Book of the Dead for most of my childhood. I’m fairly certain that I know enough to be able to take the next guy I see and properly prepare the body, wrap the mummy, and get him all the way to have his heart weighed by Ma’at against the Feather of Truth. (We don’t want Ammut the Devourer of Souls to eat his soul.) No one’s asked me to do it yet, but you never know when these things might come in handy.
9. What snack do you stash in your house/desk so that you don’t have to share?
I don’t have to hide food. Nobody wants to eat what I’m eating. I try really hard to not eat any grains or processed sugars – which basically means that I live on a diet of meat, twigs, and whatever is growing in my yard. I have to force it on my poor family, they have no interest in stealing what I’m eating. It’s definitely not husband and kid approved.
10. Do you have a plan for the zombie apocalypse? Any of it that you care to share?
It involves my mad rope climbing skills, the fact that I’ll eat just about anything, and a bicycle pump. That’s all I’m saying, and that may already be too much. I’m fairly certain that my embalming skills will be indispensable.
