It’s been four days since I last posted. I have all of these great ideas for things to write about, but none of them are going to happen today. I’m sick. It started as a little sniffle that didn’t seem to be a big deal at all, but when I added in a night with one an hour of sleep and it catapulted into full-blown sick.

Three hours ago I sneezed and all the goop in my sinuses backed up into my ears bringing on vertigo. I was standing in the kitchen and the whole world swirled in front of my eyes. The motion sickness that came with it was instant and severe. I lurched to my bed, holding onto the walls to keep from falling, and I’ve been here ever since. The swirling vision has recently settled into a vague sense of dizziness, and I’m just grateful for a comfy bed and warm blankets.

I want sleep, but there is a houseful of children who need an adult to be at least minimally aware of what they are doing, which is why I’m still awake and counting the hours until my husband gets home from work. Why can’t today be one of the days when time flies?

My youngest children have been taking turns taking care of me. Wendy brought in Peter Pan for us to watch and then she fell asleep next to me. The 4-year-old keeps bringing in sopping wet wash cloths to wipe my face, I’m feeling drenched but loved. My sweet 6-year-old has been making up stories to tell me for the past half hour. I keep reminding him to whisper so as not to wake his sister, but sword fights with zombies are exciting things and not easily whispered about.

I hate being sick, and I have a list of things to do today, but somehow this is feeling pretty important too. The little kids are taking care of me and the older ones are hatching plans for my birthday which is Saturday. I can’t hear what they’re saying, but I did hear my daughter exclaim “I just think the whole thing needs more glitter!”….so I’m pretty sure it will be just fine.
