A Little Scary

When I started writing my homeschooling book in August of last year, I didn’t really think of what would happen when it got published. I had a compelling need to sit and write aided by the laser beam focus that can only be possible with ADD.

I got up every morning and thought “Write the book. Write the book. Write the book.” I thought about cover art and titles. I daydreamed about being finished with it, but my imagination didn’t really go beyond that urge to write.

Which is why its success is taking me by surprise.

My friends are amused at the fact that I’m so overwhelmed all of a sudden. They knew it would be huge. Why didn’t I?

I don’t know.

Last night it hit the best seller list less than 24 hours after it hit Amazon. This morning it was #3

Two of the three “Hot New Releases” were mine.

I started to get inquiries from people who weren’t just readers….people who want to talk to me. About my book.

Two of my closest friends advised me to get TV appropriate clothes and to begin rehearsing for radio and television. I just clutched the phone to my ear and tried not to sound completely stunned.

Change is scary especially when you haven’t seriously considered that that kind of change was possible. One day I was a homeschooling mom and the next a best-selling author who was considering what kinds of jewelry would look best on TV.

It’s a lot of change.

It’s exciting and terrifying and a new kind of wonderful. I’m just hoping that I’m up to the task and that I don’t make a complete fool of myself if it turns out that these people really want to talk to me after all.
