11 Religions “Same in Heart” 2014-07-14T11:15:34-04:00 Reba Riley

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

“You pray in heart?” my favorite Muslim cab driver asked me from the front seat. I met his dark eyes in the rearview mirror and nodded yes. Yes, I pray in heart.  “You pray in heart,” he thumped a hand to his chest before lurching the car forward,  “I pray in heart. So me and you, we same. Everyone who pray in heart is same.”

Blessed is he who preferreth his brother before himself.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Bahá’u’lláh (Bahá’í Faith)

Do not wrong or hate your neighbor. For it is not he who you wrong, but yourself.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           (Native Wisdom)

Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Udana-Varga 5:18 (Buddhism)

My command is thus, that ye shall return all violence and hatred with peacefulness and love, for my Law is love unto all things.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Codex Vias Part Two (Wicca)

The entire Dharma can be said in a few words…that which is unfavorable to us, do not do that to others.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Padmapuraana, shrushti 19/357-358 (Hinduism)

Seek for mankind that of which you are desirous for yourself, that you may be a believer.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Sukhanan-i-Muhammad (Islam)

For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Galatians 5:14 (Christianity)

ואהבת לרעך כמוך                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against your kinsfolk. Love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD… The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as one of your citizens; you shall love him as  yourself.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Torah [Leviticus 19:18,34] (Judaism)

Whom should I despise, since the one Lord made us all.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 p.1237, Var Sarang, Guru Granth Sahib, tr. Patwant Singh  (Sikhism)

Do unto others … is a concept that essentially no religion misses entirely. But not a single one of these versions of the golden rule requires a God.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Greg Epstein, Chaplain at Harvard (Humanism)

己所不欲,勿施於人。                                                                                                                                                                                                                        What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Confucius (Confucianism)
