When it comes to race and emotions, many people struggle with anger.

Some of us do not know how to handle other people’s anger.

Some of us do not know what to do with the fire of emotions that we possess.

Often, as a solution, individuals demonize anger and avoid dealing with the issue of race.

We lie to ourselves and our world, thinking:

If we claim to be colorblind, then racism goes away.

If we ignore anger about racism, then we have peace.

On the contrary, freedom stems from the truth.

One of the most difficult truths to face is the one staring back at us in the mirror.

I know.

Hidden behind my smiling façade was once a woman consumed with anger and pain.

I justified the powder keg within me. And I had plenty of people to blame.

Recently, I gave a talk about one of my Aha! moments from my journey of healing, particularly involving race. It is entitled, Off the Hook: Race, Anger, and the Risk of Placing Blame. You can check it out below.
