The Age of Disclosure
Last updated on: December 13, 2025 at 12:09 pm By Ted Peters
The dazzling new film, "The Age of Disclosure," repeats the same themes already established in the 1950s regarding the reality of UFOs and the secrecy of the US government to hide this fact. Despite the passion and ferocity of today's disclosurists, the fact that no definitive answer regarding the existence of nonhuman extraterrestrial intelligence keeps the movement alive. An answer might snuff out the movement. This and other paradoxes puzzle me. Read more

AI and Public Theology
Last updated on: November 12, 2025 at 9:30 am By Ted Peters
Both Silicon Valley techies and public theologians register the same two fears about the future of AI technology: (1) Superintelligence might render the human race extinct, and (2) bad actors will get hold of AI technology and use it to dominate the world. The good news is that evangelical Christians, Jewish leaders, and the Vatican are constructing AI Ethics that could lead to legislative guardrails. Read more

The New Presidential Dollar?
Last updated on: December 11, 2025 at 9:04 pm By Ted Peters
Should the 47th president appear on a newly minted US dollar? Abraham Lincoln appeared on the penny because he stopped the Civil War. The current president is starting a civil war by sending the military into cities with Democratic mayors. Should we wait to see how he ends the war before putting his profile on a coin? Read more

UAP Hellfire? Otherworldly technology?
Last updated on: September 13, 2025 at 12:16 pm By Ted Peters
The recent attempt to shoot down a UFO by the US military off the coast of Yemen resulted in an astounding encounter between terrestrial technology and an uncanny superior technology of unknown origin. Might this incident fire up once again the ETI Myth, according to which more technologically advanced extraterrestrials are coming to Earth to -- what? -- save us from our own self-destruction? The road to "Renewing America" begins with a map of the destination. On that map we find a vision of an America firmly grounded in the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. This Patheos post directs us toward resources such as column essays, research articles, editorial opinions, organizational statements, and creative new thinking regardless of venue. Read more

Is AI in the Image of God?
Last updated on: August 1, 2025 at 1:51 pm By Ted Peters
When we ask whether AI is in the image of God, we note that strong AI or AGI or even ASI will be human creations. Do we pass on the divine image we inherited from God? Or, will our progeny be created in our human image? Read more

Braden Molhoek on Free Will
Last updated on: July 3, 2025 at 11:51 am By Ted Peters
The knotty question of free will should avoid the extrreme contrast between total determinism and freedom without constraints. Our dialy experience of making free choices takes place within a finite set of constraints. These constraints are set by our biological inhheritance and our cultural environment. Deliberately cultivated habits such as virtues, even if the seem like they are on autopilot, still represent free will because we chose these habits. Read more

Is our free will really in jail?
Last updated on: June 28, 2025 at 5:16 pm By Ted Peters
Neurophilosophy based on neuroscience locks human free will up in a deterministic jail. The way to liberate free will is to define it as a form of determinism--that is, as self-determinism. Read more

Last updated on: June 2, 2025 at 7:36 am By Ted Peters
Can AI become sinful? No. Can AI enhance already sinful human activity? Yes. In particular, according to the author of a new book on AI and Sin, Christopher O'Reilly, the sin AI is best at enhancing is acedia or sloth. So, if you feel slothful, ask AI to help.
