Pope Leo’s September prayer intention could not be more pertinent to Americans.
The Holy Father asks us to pray for the care of water. Plain, simple, water, without which we cannot survive for more than a day or so. Water, that we crave after a few hours. Water that is literally the liquid in the blood that flows in our veins and the spark that fires our neurons.
There is no life of any sort without water. None of us creates water. It, like this beautiful planet which teems with life, is a free gift from God. Water is part of the created order of things. Its components began to separate out after God breathed existence into existence at the Big Bang.
No human being created water. It was given to us.
But in this godless age, there are those who have accumulated wealth beyond the limits of reason. They have allowed that wealth and the earthly power it gives them to become their masters. Their greed for money and power has reached the point that, as Pope Leo wrote in Dignitaries Humanae — Magnificent Humanity — they seek to challenge God Himself by building their own Tower of Babel.
They call this Tower of Babel AI, which it appears that they intend to build without input from humanity itself, and which they have freely admitted might end human life on this planet.
AI as it is currently being created, is like its creators in that it is built on ravenous greed and is itself a manifestation of ravenous greed. It grabs all the resources for itself. It has devoured much of the economic resources of this nation, including all the credit that mad cap speculation can generate.
Now, it seeks to take the natural resources that We the People need in order to survive to fuel data centers. These data centers are being imposed on us against our will. We didn’t ask for them. But they are being built everywhere, at a frantic pace, often in direct defiance of the local citizens.
Locals boards and councils defy the people who elected them and use every device at their disposal to enable these data centers to be built. They delay votes. They lie. They sit blank-faced before irate citizens’ tirades against the data centers. Then they ignore everything the citizens have said and proceed as if no one had objected.
It does not make sense for an elected official to treat their constituents this way. My many years in elected office have shown me that when a politician does something that doesn’t make sense like this, and they switch their arguments, and change their tactics but they won’t quit and they won’t get off of it and they keep doing it, you need to look for who’s getting the money.
Look for the campaign donation. Look for the bribe. Look for the cushy job for their spouse. Then, it will all make sense.
I can and I will write more about the devastation that greed, bribes and the arrogance of evil is wreaking on our nation. But for now, let’s talk about what Pope Leo has asked of us.
He is asking us to do the simplest and the most difficult thing. He is asking us to pray. Specifically, he is asking us to pray for the proper and holy care of the magnificent gift of water.
As I said at the beginning of this post, no prayer could be more pertinent for Americans today. Clean, drinkable water that comes out of the tap at the twist of our wrists is not a given.
We take it for granted because we’ve always had it.
We take it for granted because we’ve always been able to afford it.
But nothing can be taken for granted in a country which is under the control of spiritually dead men who have become their own gods.
AI has already taken over our economic resources. There is serious talk that we cannot “afford” the basic things that We the People need to live. The reason is that the money for those things is being siphoned off to feed the greed of a minuscule number of billionaires.
There is also what appears to be a coordinated movement to build these mammoth data centers which will devour the electricity and water of whole swaths of our nation. No one anywhere has asked any of us what we think. This is advancing with total arrogance and disregard for the wishes of We the People.
Water sustains our lives. We must have air to breathe, water to drink, and food to eat, or we will die.
The proper care of our planet, including the proper care of water, is not just a pro life issue. It is a pro life imperative with roots that run back to the beginning of our relationship with God.
The care of the earth and all its riches was the very first responsibility that God laid on us. He placed this earth in our care, not to destroy it, not to pillage it, but to use it with responsibility, justice and a humble recognition that it does not belong to any group or generation of people.
This earth is not ours to pillage. It is a trust that we are bound before God to keep and preserve while we use its riches for the benefit all humankind.
No small group of greed-driven, morally dead men should be allowed to seize control of the stuff of life in order to feed their own personal mental and moral sickness.
The just care of water is a moral imperative.
I hope we all join our prayers with those of our Holy Father and pray for the care of water this September.
