Interview with a Vampyre Witch: Alexis Pharae

Last updated on: December 16, 2022 at 1:21 pm   By Coby Michael Ward

The nocturnal spirit in the form of the vampire has terrified and seduced mankind for millennia.  It’s archaic roots can be traced back into the shadows of ancient history, to the first civilizations. The vampire in its many forms represents the dangerous and adversarial forces of the wild, at a time when humans first began to dwell behind city walls.  While vampires have had many forms and many names throughout history, their presence persists, a testament to their fabled immortality.  Read more

Smoke Divination: The Art of Capnomancy

Last updated on: August 24, 2022 at 9:16 pm   By Coby Michael Ward

I didn't know all too much about smoke divination, or capnomancy up until a year or so ago.  I certainly didn't realize how accurate and in detail it would be in regard to my life until I had a reading from Rissa Miller.  A writer, academic and lover of nature, Rissa also has been doing tea leaf divination and smoke readings for a number of years.  There are lots of different ways that smoke divination can be approached, and we can also incorporate specific plant allies when it comes to burning herbs.  You don't find many people who are really adept at capnomancy, but Rissa is one of the finest, and I am excited that she was willing to share more about it! Read more

Witch City Tarot Gathering Re-Cap

Last updated on: July 28, 2022 at 3:55 pm   By Coby Michael Ward

Witch City Tarot Gathering Re-Cap I spent the past weekend in the magical town of Salem, Massachusetts at the 300 year old Hawthorne Hotel for the Witch City Tarot Gathering 2022.   This event is hosted annually by Kris Gurky and an entire coven of helpers that made it possible.  I specifically want to give a shoutout to Jen Sankey creator of Stardust Wanderer Tarot, who did all of the live interviews, PR and social media promo for the entire event! Jen has such an electrifying personality, and... Read more

The Satyr’s Kiss: Queer Men, Sex Magic & Modern Witchcraft By Storm Faerywolf July 2022 Review by Coby Michael The Satyr’s Kiss  I am writing this article from the perspective of a cisgender gay male, and my language is a reflection of that perspective.  It is not intended to be exclusionary or to represent the sole scope of this book.  Queer witchcraft has something to offer for everyone, and even if you aren’t a gay male you will be more... Read more

The Fairy Godmother of Occult Publishing

Last updated on: March 6, 2022 at 2:59 pm   By Coby Michael Ward

The world of occult publishing is a fascinating one, and one of my favorite publishers is Hadean Press.  They have titles from Jake Stratton-Kent, Nikolaj de Mattos Frisvold and many more; from translated grimoires to Cyprianic magic.  Hadean Press has some truly rare and unique publications, and I wanted to learn more about one of its founders; managing director and editor-in-chief Erzebet Barthold.  I want to thank Erzebet for taking the time to answer these questions, and as always look... Read more

Blackthorn’s Protection Magic

Last updated on: February 27, 2022 at 11:47 am   By Coby Michael Ward

When we seek to work with occult forces, we put a neon “open for business” sign above our heads.  By enacting in spell work, we are signaling to the spirit world that we want to interact.  We are initiating into a co-creative relationship with the Universe and its powers, and that opens us up to a lot of different things.  Read more

Philosophia Toxicum: A Discourse on the Poison Path

Last updated on: February 8, 2022 at 11:01 am   By Coby Michael Ward

The Poison Path According to One Poisoner I have been writing and teaching about my experiences as a practitioner of poison path witchcraft since 2016.  I have had the opportunity to get to know numerous other practitioners, each with their own way of working; their own perspective from which they approach this path.  Few people will choose to completely dedicate their occult pursuits to working with spiritual and physical poisons, for obvious reasons.  The term, The Poison Path was coined... Read more
