It's Baby Time!

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

Astute followers of this blog will have noted that there has not been much blog to follow lately — at least not since last Friday.  The reason is simple: my wife and I had a baby.  The process began Friday evening and came to a happy conclusion in the dark morning hours of Saturday.  After returning home yesterday (Monday), I am presently helping my wife and newborn daughter (our second) adjust to their new lives.

I’ll have more opportunity to reflect on these experiences soon, and next week I’ll return to my regular blogging schedule.  In the meantime, here are some photos you might enjoy.

Our younger daughter was born 8 pounds, 11 ounces, and 21 inches in length.  We had a bit of a fright when she issued from the womb blue and lifeless, with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck.  Thankfully, that was quickly remedied.  Here she is just a few moments later.  She is suffering the first of many measurements the world will force upon her.

My elder daughter delivers some big sister lovin’.

I’ve always enjoyed the details of newborns — some of the details that vanish when newborns plump out and become babies — like the creases of their feet.

That’s one milk-drunk baby.  Although my daughter is not jaundiced, we were told to introduce her to that kind Jewish boy, Billy Rubin, by setting her in the sunlight frequently.  This apparently makes her want nothing so much as to take a nap.  Which is pretty much what she does during all daylight hours, in fact, leaving me (like now) awake with her in the middle of the night.  We’ll get her schedule flipped soon enough.

Any daughter of mine, of course, must be contemplative — or at least able to feign the appearance of contemplation.  Here, she gives it her best shot.

NOTE: I’ll try to post a few more items this week, so please do come on back.  But I look forward to resuming the routine next week.  Thanks for your understanding.
