“A person who sings prays twice”

“A person who sings prays twice” 2013-05-13T12:56:52-04:00 Phil Fox Rose

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

Today’s daily devotional entry in Living Faith is one of mine. The reading is:

Sing to the LORD a new song,
for he has done wondrous deeds.
— Psalm 98:1

And in part I say:

St. Augustine is credited with saying, “A person who sings prays twice.” Beautiful music itself is prayer, and when wedded to words of praise the result is a foretaste of the new Earth to come. This can be true whether it is plainchant, choral music or a modern composition (though we all have preferences).

(I’m quoting St. Hildegard von Bingen in the second half of that paragraph, but it looks like the citation got cut in shortening. I’m not usually that poetic. 🙂 )
