Intro Leaving Your Place of Shittim From Bondage to Blessing 2026-07-16T16:35:39-06:00 Pastor Kelly M. Williams
Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
Shittim happens.
They say it happens.
It happens to you.
It happens to me.
It happens to those we love.
It even happens to those we hate. (I know, we are not supposed to hate anyone, but the point is…)
It happens to everyone we know.
All of us will find ourselves from time to time in a place called Shittim. The question isn’t will we find ourselves there, the question is what will we do once we find ourselves in a place called Shittim?
Will we give up?
Will we throw up our hands and have a pity party for ourselves?
Will we look for someone to blame?
Will we take out our fear and anxiety on someone else?
Will we fixate on it?
Will we wallow in it?
Will we pull others down into it with us?
Will we let it be the defining criteria of our lives?
Will it become the thermostat of our existence?
Or…
Will we turn and look for a way out?
Will we seek to leave Shittim and continue to embark on the calling God has on our lives?
Some of us end up in Shittim by our own doing. Some of us end up in Shittim because of a series of seemingly unfortunate events that appear unjust and yet others of us find ourselves in Shittim because of the choices of others and how they impact our lives. Regardless of why you are in Shittim. I want to remind you of the most important thing you need to know.
There’s a way out of your Shittim!
It is possible to go on to the promise land of blessings that God has for your life. It is possible to find within yourself the necessary courage inside yourself regardless of why you are here to “Line it out and press on” to who, what and where God has called your life.
If you do not believe God has a calling on your life, it is doubtful you will ever find your way out of a place called Shittim. If you do not believe God has a purpose for your place of shittim, it is doubtful you will ever leave here, but if you believe God has calling and purpose for your life, rest assured, there ain’t no shittim gonna keep you from fulfilling your God given purpose.
But easier said than done, right? Especially when every direction you look you seem to see more shittim and feel opposition that is mounting, growing, and the odds of success seems to dwindle with each passing moment.
Let me ask you again…Are you stuck in the middle of a place called Shittim right now?
Do you find yourself struggling in a dead end job, a child that won’t listen, a marriage that can’t seem to make it out of the valley, an addiction that keeps getting the best of you, a chronic illness that won’t cut you a break, a friendship that you thought would go the distance, or a relationship you trusted that has betrayed you, a financial crisis you never dreamed could be so painful, or maybe it is a love one that is suffering from a chronic illness or maybe you have trauma from your past that with every difficult moment you find your mind and body keeping score to the point that it triggers this place called Shittim in your heart a million times a day? Maybe you just can’t forgive what you can’t forget.
Whatever your struggle, whatever your place of Shittim and regardless of why you are smack dab in the middle of it, I want to remind you of the most important truth…God loves you, God sees your place of Shittim, and even better He has not forsaken you in it. He is with you in your place of shittim and He is FOR you in your place of Shittim despite what the voices may be telling you. You MATTER TO HIM and your place of shittim is no match for the Shekinah glory of God’s presence in your life. There is coming a day when the place of Shittim in your life will give way to the promise land of blessings that God ordained for you long before you were even born.
Your place of shittim is temporary, but the promise land of blessings that God has ordained for your life is forever.
See thousands of years ago, I mean, thousands of years ago, a group of people known as the Israelites found themselves in a place called Shittim. They were in a shittim of a mess. And if they can get out, so can you!
