COURAGEOUS TRUST IN GOD’S PROMISES

Every person has a story. Every person has brokenness in their lives. We must courageously trust Christ and tell our stories of how God fulfilled His promises in our lives and restored what was broken in our lives. Jeremiah the Prophet taught God’s people in his day to do just that. He showed them how to courageously trust in God’s promises to restore what was broken in their lives. You and I can follow what Jeremiah is going to say to us as well and experience this same redemption.

God said to Jeremiah in 30:1 “Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you. 3 For behold, days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will restore the fortunes of my people, Israel and Judah, says the Lord, and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall take possession of it.” 17 For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’

If you and I are going to experience the restoration that God has for our lives, we must first pay attention to what God says to us. A great way to pay attention to what God says to us is to write it down so we can remember it.

God told Jeremiah, “I will restore…I will bring them back…remind them they shall take possession…and He will restore their health and heal their wounds.

What incredible promises to write down, claim, and trust God to do.

What is broken in your life right now? What promises has God given you in that brokenness?

Write them down and watch God work. He is just that good to you and me as His children.

I encourage you to listen to the voice of God’s promises and not to the voice of the discouraging Enemy that says God has forgotten you. He has not. Regardless of what you have done, God can and will bring you back. Regardless of what your loved ones have done, God can and will bring them back.

Write down what He tells you!

Sadly, the book of Jeremiah is largely about God having to judge His people because they refuse to listen to His voice. But that is not all it is about. One of my favorite passages throughout all of Jeremiah is Jeremiah 31:1. Jeremiah says,

Jeremiah 31:1 “At that time, declares the Lord, I will be the God of all the clans of Israel, and they shall be my people.” 2 Thus says the Lord: “The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest, 3 the Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. 4 Again I will build you (Israel)…

16 Thus says the Lord: “Keep your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for there is a reward for your work, declares the Lord, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. 17 There is hope for your future, declares the Lord, and your children shall come back to their own country.

18 I (God) have heard Ephraim (Israel) grieving, ‘You have disciplined me, and I was disciplined, like an untrained calf; bring me back that I may be restored, for you are the Lord my God. 20 Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he my darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do remember him still. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him, declares the Lord.

26 At this I (Jeremiah) awoke and looked, and my sleep was pleasant to me.

31 Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel. 33…I will write it on their hearts…

While you trudge through the wasteland of your life, don’t forget to remember God’s faithful covenant to you through the finished work of Christ on the cross.

God’s covenant to Israel and God’s covenant to us through Jesus consists of repeated grace and everlasting love that promises He will bring us back to Himself. What an amazing promise! What an amazing covenant God has made with us through His covenant fulfilled through Jesus.

God promises us also through this covenant we will experience mercy and pleasant sleep.

That’s a good deal! Maybe you haven’t been sleeping well of late.

It is important to remember these promises when our faith waivers in Him and sleep seems to escape us.

Sometimes our circumstances seem so bleak and so dark and so hopeless. Jeremiah and the people of God were living in one of those moments. Look at what happens in Jeremiah 32,

Jeremiah 32:1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar. 2 At that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard…

8…Hanamel my cousin came to me…and said to me, ‘Buy my field that is at Anathoth…9 “And I bought the field. 15 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be bought in this land.’”

What is the big deal? Context! They were all being taken off into bondage and Israel was being destroyed. During this Jeremiah’s cousin comes and says, “Buy the field from me in your hometown.” That’s crazy. He is just wasting his money. Everybody is going into bondage. But Jeremiah prophesied that they would come back and so they tested him to see if he believed what he said.

Let me ask it another way, “When you come to prayer service to pray for rain, do you bring an umbrella with you for when you leave?”

This was a huge act of faith. He bought this land for future blessings. What will you buy today that seems bleak and impossible but will yield great fruit for God’s Kingdom in the future? Do you believe by faith enough now to act by faith now in bleak situations believing the impossible will come true in the future?

Keep pressing in, God’s faithfulness to you will eventually prove true, always. Look at what Jeremiah says in Jeremiah 32,

32:16 “After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch, I prayed to the Lord, saying, 17 ‘Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you. 26 The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 27 “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me? 42 “For thus says the Lord: Just as I have brought all this great disaster upon this people, so I will bring upon them all the good that I promise them. 43 Fields shall be bought in this land (again one day).

God is saying MIRACLES ARE COMING!

It is extremely important that you and I act by faith expecting an impossible miracle from God.

Great miracles require great faith! Don’t give up on God’s promises just because the darkness around you is at all time high right now in your life. It is always darkest before God does the brightest miracle.

This was true when Jesus entered the world. Jesus brought hope to a hopeless dark world. He was light.

Jesus says in John8:12, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

Claim this promise in the darkness of your life, today.

Jeremiah spoke of this promise of Jesus to come to the people of Israel in his day in Jeremiah 33,

Jeremiah 33:1 The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the guard: 2 “Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it—the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it—the Lord is his name: 3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. 11b “Give thanks to the Lord of hosts, for the Lord is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!’ For I will restore the fortunes of the land as at first, says the Lord.

14 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. 15 In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch (JESUS) to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 16 In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’

20 “Thus says the Lord: If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night will not come at their appointed time, 21 then also my covenant with David my servant may be broken…

It is important that you and I believe Jesus will fulfill the promises of God in our lives.

He is our only hope.

If God said it, Jesus will do it. Do you have a real relationship with Jesus Christ? Have you given your life to Jesus Christ? Do you understand that the promises of God come to us through relationship with Jesus Christ? He died for you and me on the cross. His finished work takes away our condemnation and eternal damnation. God has only good things to give us. He wants us to experience the joys of knowing Him through His Son Jesus Christ. And when we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, we experience the fulfillment of God’s promises to us. Some of those promises we experience immediately, some over the span of our life on earth, and the remaining promises are fulfilled for us in eternity.

If you have never given your life to Jesus Christ, today is the BEST DAY to do so.

It will change the story of your life, forever.

I see the light breaking over your story, today.

Come to Jesus!

You won’t regret it!

Blessings,

Pastor Kelly
