Monday Morning Confessional

Last updated on: November 26, 2012 at 9:04 am   By Tim Suttle

I confess that I have been taking a short and much needed break from blogging the past three days. I confess that yesterday I didn’t even turn on my computer. The hiatus was probably a good thing, but I have missed the interaction and creative outlet. I confess that I watched Skyfall over the break. As far as Bond movies go, it was one of the better ones I’ve seen. I confess that I think Sean Connery was the best... Read more

Eat the Turkey, not each other: How to survive Thanksgiving dinner – A Great Article by my friend Marty Troyer

Last updated on: November 22, 2012 at 7:53 am   By Tim Suttle

Marty Troyer gives some great insight as to why family thanksgivings can be so difficult for some, and how to handle it. Here’s an excerpt from his article in the Houston Chronicle: “…you’re getting ready for hours of extroverted time with people who believe differently, vote differently, function differently, parent differently, eat differently, relax differently, entertain differently, pray differently, and expect differently than you do. Let’s face it, we like our routines, and Thanksgiving is nothing if not unusual. It’s... Read more

Hey, Peddlers of Fear! I’m Done With You! (Eric Berry & The Guardians will explain why)

Last updated on: November 21, 2012 at 10:29 am   By Tim Suttle

Our family went to see “The Guardians” movie on a sneak peak the other night. It was brilliant. he whole movie is about the toxic nature of fear. Fear is deadly and so simple to counteract – simply don’t give it any oxygen. This week I have been returning to this hilarious clip of Eric Berry freaking out on the sidelines because there is a live horse walking around. I’ve watched this thing a dozen times and it never gets... Read more

Anglican Church Votes to Reject Women as Bishops, “Detonating its Credibility” Critics Say

Last updated on: November 20, 2012 at 3:12 pm   By Tim Suttle

I’m absolutely shocked by this decision out of the U.K. – the Church of England has rejected a measure that would finally allow women to serve in the role of bishop within the Anglican church. Interestingly the Bishops themselves were overwhelmingly in favor of it. The House of Bishops voted 44 in favor, three against. The House of the Clergy also ratified the measure, 148 in favor with 45 against. It was the house of the laity (stacked with a... Read more

Women Bishops? Today is a Huge Day for the Church of England

Last updated on: November 20, 2012 at 8:28 am   By Tim Suttle

It’s morning in the U.S., so the vote may be over. Any moment now I hope to see news from England that the Anglican Church has voted to ordain women as bishops. It would be an historic moment for the church and would provide a much needed moment of agreement in a church that has been tortured by division over the past decade. Tony Campolo makes the case in a simple and concise way at Red Letter Christians: The vote... Read more

Monday Morning Confessional

Last updated on: November 19, 2012 at 7:37 am   By Tim Suttle

I confess that I struggle to be present where I am, in the moment. I spend too much time thinking about other things – reprocessing past events, or dreaming about future ones – and have trouble just being totally present to what I am doing at any given time. I confess that I think a person can literally fail to live their own life because they are so busy living in the past or in the future. I confess that... Read more

Andy Stanley and Charles Stanley – What Really Happened?

Last updated on: November 18, 2012 at 8:11 am   By Tim Suttle

For years I’ve heard the whispers about what happened between Andy Stanley, one of the most famous and influential pastors and leaders, and his father Charles Stanley, equally famous and possibly even more influential. These two famously large preaching personalities had parted ways years back amid a divorce between Charles and his wife, Andy’s mom. Some say that Charles had an affair that broke up his marriage and never even missed a day in the pulpit through the whole thing.... Read more

Apparently God Hates K-State – Luckily God Hates Baylor, Too

Last updated on: November 17, 2012 at 10:04 am   By Tim Suttle

It’s Saturday & K-State is my school, so today is a big day. There’s a lot to root for in Manhattan this year. Collin Klein is this nice Christian kid who is actually managed to not be creepy or obnoxious about his faith – not always easy to do in the spotlight of a Heisman race and a national championship. Snyder has built a program that is squeaky clean and they are headed to Baylor to keep the national championship... Read more

How to Make An Adult Baptism Stylish – Watch and Learn (or laugh) From This 2 Minutes of Heaven

Last updated on: November 16, 2012 at 7:43 am   By Tim Suttle

So the “Big Rich Texas” clip opens with the line, “I am going to show you how to make an adult baptism stylish,” so you just know it’s going to be hilarious. The first thing you gotta ask yourself is, “Why am I listening to this woman teach me how to properly baptize someone?” A questions immediately followed by another, more existential question: “Do we really want to make a baptism stylish?” You can dismiss that as silliness, but the... Read more
