Monday Morning Confessional

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

I confess I have never paid attention to leap day until this year, and then only because of media/entertainment coverage. I confess that I have had to stifle my annoying need to debunk the idea that it is a “free day.”

I confess that when we saw “Anything Goes” on Broadway a couple of weeks ago, one of the actors shot off a gun and it startled the crap out of me. It was so loud & came at a very strange time in the story that jumped nearly out of my seat and treated those sitting around me to an audible, “Holy S#*+!” Luckily it startled everyone & I think I got away with it. Nevertheless, public cursing should be confessed.

I confess that my biggest fears are – in no specific order:

Being a failure (understood as not successful)

Looking ridiculous (as if this is somehow avoidable)

Being Startled (I’m a bit on the jumpy side – see above)

Having something bad happen to my children (physical, emotion, or spiritual)

Social Mixers or events (I have slight agoraphobia)

Snakes (Or all reptiles in general)

Small Enclosures where I cannot maneuver (I have slight Closter phobia)

I confess that I’m a little bit unnerved by recent weather patterns. I have made it a rule to never pay attention to weather patterns of less than a decade. Nothing is more annoying than when someone greets an especially chilly January morning with the comment, “So much for global warming!” Ugh! But last week we had a 70 degree day in February which ended in a thunderstorm that produced a tornado about 100 miles from here. The next morning we had a blizzard for about 30 minutes, but when I ran at 4:45 it was 45 degrees and sunny. We are living in strange times… I just order 4,000 MRE’s, a 200 gallon water tank, and an AK-47… just kidding.

I confess that I watch 4 sitcoms on a fairly regular basis: 30 Rock, Modern Family, New Girl, and Last Man Standing. I tell myself it’s not so bad since we DVR them & watch w/out commercials. I confess that this is probably not a good use of my time, but when I need to laugh, these folks never disappoint me. I confess that this is not a completely insignificant contribution to society – even though they are all pretty decadent.

I confess that I just finished the manuscript on book #2 – Public Jesus, which is set to be released on June 1 (The House Studio is the publisher). I confess that I wrote this book with extreme haste, and without over-thinking – which was nearly an out of body experience, since I am an epic over-thinker. I confess that I am afraid that my haste will result in an intense encounter with the first 2 fears above: being a failure, or looking ridiculous.
