In which Our Heroine attempts to explain Feri (part 1)
Last updated on: May 14, 2010 at 5:27 pm By Sara Amis
Feri can look rather Wiccany from a distance but the closer you get the less certain you are likely to be of anything, much less what manner of creatures we are. (We don't call it "Faery" for nothin'.) Feri is also rather diverse; practices which are important to some lines don't appear in others, and anything anyone says about the tradition, including me, should be taken with a grain of salt and a shot of whiskey. Sorcery 101: Shielding
Last updated on: May 13, 2010 at 4:23 pm By aansteken
Shielding is one of the most important things that witches learn. Our coven teaches it to all our beginners. As a neophyte, I thought that shielding was a way to protect yourself against people who were working magic against you, and it is, but it’s also much broader and deeper than that. Human perception and memory is extremely mutable. Eyewitness accounts are notoriously inaccurate. People’s perception changes based on their own biases and the behavior of the people around them.... A Real Mother
Last updated on: May 13, 2010 at 4:52 am By lachesis
All too often we get ourselves caught in this trap of thinking that being the Earth Mother is who ALL mothers are supposed to be. And Pagan moms are no different. Read more

Healing Request: Isaac Bonewits
Last updated on: May 12, 2010 at 12:54 pm By Star Foster
Isaac Bonewits, Pagan author, theologian and founder of the ADF, has been given a grim prognosis as just reported by Jason at The Wild Hunt. Being a Pagan elder doesn’t exactly come with a healthcare plan, so in addition to sending healing energy to Isaac and his wife Phaedra, please consider donating through paypal to help with the mounting healthcare costs. I may not believe in paying for teaching but I strongly believe in caring for our elders. They donate... Read more

Keeping Secrets
Last updated on: May 12, 2010 at 9:28 am By aansteken
Keeping secrets is rude and divisive, and British Tradition Witcca (BTW) gets a lot of crap for doing it. My particular flavor of Wicca, Gardnerian, is one of the most secret squirrelly of them all. In fact, Gerald Gardner’s books are littered with overtly provocative statements including “forbidden to speak,” “cannot tell,” and “must not divulge.” That’s seriously immature. If you try to say that at a party, you’d get laughed out of the room. So how does a modern... Read more

Wyrd Designs – Understanding the Symbols Part 3 – Irminsul
Last updated on: May 12, 2010 at 9:25 am By wyrddesigns
The Irminsul is a symbol found in antiquity, but unlike the mjollnir (Thor’s Hammer), this is not a symbol that we have any evidence of it ever being worn. Instead it appears to be a communal symbol, erected in honor of the Gods. The Irminsul, in the Old Saxon language means mighty pillar, and it may connect to a possible god of the Saxon tribe by the name of Irmin as well. The existence of Irmin is at best a... Read more

…..to remain silent.
Last updated on: May 12, 2010 at 9:25 am By talogwitch
Any witch worth her salt knows that the law of magic requires the practitioner’s total silence after the spell has been cast. Witches are forbidden to discuss or refer to a spell later, for once the magic has been worked the book is shut and the matter closed; that which happens within the circle remains within the circle. This is not a difficult rule to live by if one is a solitary, for there is no-one to gossip with anyway,... Read more

Understanding the Ascetic’s Path
Last updated on: May 12, 2010 at 8:23 am By krasskova
Ascetic practices include but are not limited to fasting, disciplined meditation, a regimen of internal and external cleansings, sensory deprivation, paring down of one’s possessions, and voluntary celibacy (which I already discussed here in a previous article). To the American mind, this body of practices is most often associated with medieval Christianity. This article explores how these practices can be a powerful tool in the Pagan and Heathen's spiritual tool-box as well. Read more
