Feri Pentacles, Iron and Pearl (part 5)

Last updated on: May 21, 2010 at 4:53 am   By Sara Amis

Therefore on his shining shield was shaped now this knot, royally with red gules upon red gold set, this is the pure pentangle as people of learning have taught. –Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (trans. J.R.R. Tolkien) The points of Iron are these: Sex. Self, Passion, Pride, Power, starting at the top and going clockwise. Consider each of them in turn; if you like, stand up and feel each of them in your body, Sex at your head, Self... Read more

Wyrd Designs: Understanding the Symbols Part 4 – Sunwheels (Solar Crosses & Swastikas)

Last updated on: May 20, 2010 at 5:10 am   By wyrddesigns

From ancient sources going back thousands of years, we have two types of sunwheels present in the archaeological record. The first is known as a solar cross, which is a circle bisected by a horizontal, and a vertical line arranged in the shape of a cross. The other incorporates the sowilo rune (which literally means ‘sun’) and may be known as a fylfot or swastika (which infamously was misappropriated by the Nazi party in World War II). Variations of this... Read more

Pagan Light Bulb Jokes!

Last updated on: May 19, 2010 at 12:29 pm   By Sara Amis

I will take a break from my Feritribe because I was totally inspired by Julie Maldonado’s post to share these with you. You’ll thank me later. I made some of them up, which probably says a lot about me, but some of them I didn’t and if you are one of the people who originated these jokes please let me know because I will give you credit and also buy you a beer. Unless you’re a Druid, in which case... Read more

Today In Racy Relics

Last updated on: May 19, 2010 at 10:25 am   By aansteken

From the NY Daily News: “The world’s oldest sex toy was more than just a feel-good aid. The 30,000-year-old siltstone phallus doubled as a tool to ignite fires. The racy relic was found in a cave in Germany and is being studied at the University of Tubingen there, according to Independent Online. The find was a rare one since examples of masculinity from that period are unusual to stumble upon, although female-inspired works of art are rather common.” Fantastic! The... Read more

Ethics Statement: What Do YOU Think? (full text)

Last updated on: May 18, 2010 at 6:38 pm   By Star Foster

I’ve mentioned a few times that there has been a community-wide effort to create a statement regarding sex abuse, and only on this issue. Many Pagans, myself included, feel that there needs to be a clear statement that we do not condone sexual abuse, particularly by those in clergy/teacher/leader positions in our community. Here’s the full text of the final draft from the forum it was crafted on. What do YOU think? Would YOU support this? Part 1 (Short version... Read more

Wyrd Designs – Finding Others

Last updated on: May 18, 2010 at 2:12 pm   By wyrddesigns

Finding other heathens can always be a bit of a challenge. Unlike your local newspaper that has a printed directory published in it advertising all the churches, synagogues and the mosques servicing the local community finding Heathen groups can be a bit trickier. For starters while we are a growing religion, we are definitely a minority religion. This means that sometimes the only Heathen individual let alone group close to you depending on where you’re located could be HOURS away... Read more
