Within the Northern Tradition there is a deep respect to those who serve in the military. While Veteran’s Day is intended to first and foremost honor those living Veterans from past military service, it is also used to honor those currently serving, and to a lesser degree those soldiers now dead. Some Heathens will be observing rituals to honor the Einherjar: the battle-slain warriors who are taken to Valhalla. Of course, not all of the battle-slain go to Valhalla some also go to Freya’s Hall, but modern-Heathens will honor the war-dead, especially their ancestors who served at this time. Other Heathens will honor the Einherjar at Memorial Day instead, since technically Memorial Day is the day meant to be set aside to specifically honor the war dead. Others may opt to do it at other times too.

On this Veteran’s Day I myself would personally like to thank those who have served in war-time, peace-time, or who are currently active in the service. As part of my expression of thanks, I am expanding upon my previous offer of free Sigdrifa’s Prayer bookmarks that I have made available to those Heathens currently serving in the U.S. military.

For a limited time, I’m now making eligible any Pagan or Heathen soldier who is currently active in the U.S. military, or is a veteran of U.S. military service. Additionally, I’ll also offer bookmarks to any Pagan or Heathen first responder (Police, Firefighters, and EMTs) in honor of those who were on our frontlines on 9-11.

Please note you must have a U.S. shipping address (APO/FPO addresses do qualify).  To take advantage of this opportunity please contact me by December 1, 2010. After that date, the bookmarks will once again only be eligible for currently serving Heathens in the U.S. military.
