Looking For the Goddess of Ostara/Easter
Last updated on: March 11, 2015 at 3:54 pm By Jason Mankey
Was there actually a goddess named Eostre? I believe so, but she might have been very different from how she's often perceived today. I've also experienced Eostre, and it was one of the most memorable and breath-taking events of my life. Read more

Not My Council
Last updated on: April 5, 2016 at 12:21 pm By Jason Mankey
I have no doubt that many of the people involved in "The American Council of Witches 2015" have the best of intentions. However the way they've announced their existence and rolled out their social media has left me and many others a bit wary. People are welcome to form their own councils, just don't start thinking that you're representing me. Read more

Last updated on: March 4, 2015 at 3:03 pm By Jason Mankey
What does a Robert Cochrane inspired Witchcraft ritual look like? Probably not this, but this ritual does utilize several primary sources in an attempt to recreate a "Traditional Cochrane Witchcraft" ritual. Read more

How the Claim of Being Old Saved Modern Paganism
Last updated on: February 27, 2015 at 8:26 am By Jason Mankey
By claiming a historicity for his Witchcraft Gerald Gardner saved us all from a more authoritarian present. By leaving the door open for other Witches, Gardner helped keep the Craft vital, fresh, and forward thinking. Read more

Paganism: A Tribe or Tribes?
Last updated on: February 23, 2015 at 9:47 pm By Jason Mankey
Some Pagan festivals feel like a gathering of the tribes, while others feel more like a gathering of "the" tribe. My weekend in Detroit for the ConVocation festival made me feel like part of a giant, diverse, and welcoming community. Read more

Finding the Common Ground at PantheaCon
Last updated on: February 17, 2015 at 6:58 pm By Jason Mankey
Over the last few years I've tried to express the idea that our differences are often much smaller in person than they appear to be online. I found that to be the case numerous times at the PantheaCon festival this past weekend. There is just no substitute for direct and personal engagement with people. Read more

Pagan Festivals and the .25%
Last updated on: February 10, 2015 at 8:31 am By Jason Mankey
Two million Pagans in the United States, and 5000 of them might get to a February/March festival in the United States. That's only .25% of American Paganism and yet talk of PantheaCon and other festivals will dominate the Pagan corners of the internet over the next few weeks. It's not fair, but I understand why it happens. Read more

Maybe I Don’t Need a Temple
Last updated on: February 4, 2015 at 10:44 pm By Jason Mankey
It's rarely articulated online, but what if I don't want or need a Pagan Temple or Community Center? Do such ideas really mesh with my own spiritual practice? Should I tell the kids to get off my lawn? I find the idea of shared Pagan spaces interesting, but I'm not sure how much I would utilize one. Read more
