I’ve been very busy preparing to host a Yule dinner with friends and making gifts. My husband and I don’t have much money so we often bake and create gifts. He makes amazing apple pie and cookies.
For the Staff of Asclepius blog I’m wrapping up an interview with a Pagan in New Zealand concerning the government and healthcare there. I’m also putting together a couple of posts about the health and beauty benefits of olive oil.
There are many reasons to use all natural bath and beauty products. They are wonderful for people with sensitive skin or are sensitive to perfumes or heavy perfumes. A women’s group I belonged too once spent the afternoon making our own scents at a perfumer. We learned that people are usually sensitive or allergic to the preservatives.
Spa Scrub Recipe
It doesn’t take much of this scrub to soften your skin. It can be used in the bath or shower as an exfoliate. If you are on your feet a lot during work, come home and rub the cream all over your foot. Sooth tension by gently massaging in small circles. Rinse and pat dry when finished.
Remember that everyone’s skin reacts differently to different plants and their various forms (oils, extracts, herbs). It may be a good idea to do a small test on your skin before making a huge batch.
1/2 cup coconut oil (Not the cooking cream.) It only has a hint of “coconut” smell.
1 cup vegetable shortening (Optional to save money. Otherwise use a full 1 and 1/2 cups coconut oil)
3 cups sugar
15 drops pennyroyal essence The pennyroyal makes your skin tingle a bit and feel refreshed.
For scent add any other extract, essence, or ground or powdered dried herbs you wish.
Don’t use fresh flowers or herbs. They will spoil.
Rebember that essences are super concentrated and it doesn’t take nearly as much as an extract.
class jar with lid recently washed in hot soapy water and dried
Coconut oil can be waxy and hard making it difficult to scoop out of the jar. The amount doesn’t have to be precise. Measure the best you can and put it in a microwave safe bowl or in a cooking pot. Soften the coconut oil. Don’t completely melt it.
Mix in the remaining items.
Store in the jar at room temperature.
