Eating and Spirituality, Part 4: Myth and Symbol

Last updated on: December 12, 2012 at 2:11 pm   By Sarah Whedon

This is the final post in a series on eating and spirituality during the childbearing year that I wrote way back in February.  I don’t know why this post got orphaned, but at least I’m sharing it with you now.  In the first three posts I talked about why and how to start incorporating attention to food into your spiritual life, but I wanted to also touch on the mythology and symbolism of food. Last updated on: December 12, 2012 at 8:36 pm   By Guest Contributor

By Kris Bradley Editor’s Note: This is re-posted with the author’s permission from Confessions of a Pagan Soccer Mom.  Photo credit: Hecate via Rob Koopman. I’ve participated in a couple of discussions in the last month or so on the subject of the typical Triple  Goddess: Maiden, Mother and Crone  The Maiden is virginal.  She is the waxing moon; the early spring, not quite yet burst into bloom; she is  new beginnings.  She is a seeker of knowledge. The Mother is... Read more

Review: Sacred Pregnancy

Last updated on: December 12, 2012 at 8:36 pm   By Sarah Whedon

“Growing a baby offers a woman the opportunity to be part of Mother Nature’s mysteries, which directly connects her to the source of all things.” (99) Sacred Pregnancy is a guidebook and journal for pregnant mothers. “The point of this book is to help you feel prepared emotionally, spiritually, and physically to birth your baby and enter motherhood,” says author Anni Daulter. (291) Get the book in your hands and you’ll see it was obviously lovingly designed.  It’s filled with... Read more

A Mother to Many

Last updated on: December 12, 2012 at 3:38 pm   By Guest Contributor

There are many different children I see with different combinations of my traits and those of my husband. In my mind I hold these mourned children and they smile at me and I feel our connection – that great mystery of blood and spirit shared between woman and child. Read more
